Takes a little while to get the adjustment right for your head and eyes.
Do you wear glasses? I wear reading glasses but, thankfully, don't need to in VR.
So.....
Initial impressions are that I am impressed. Not as sharp as I expected but Im having problems getting it adjusted to sit right and in focus. The lenses do seem a little smudged and maybe dirty so Im gonna try giving them a clean as well. Reminded me of how much I hate Facebook having to set up a burner account so I can even use the thing. I picked up virtual desktop, Half life and Fallout. Had a play on Half life and its good but Ive got the day off tomorrow so I can try and fine tune things a bit.
Is cleaning the lenses something other people have done and is there an optimal way to fit the headset? If I fit it too tight its not in focus so its trying to get it right but do I need to adjust resolution on it something?
Also Im reading a bit about sidequest? Do I need this and whats it actually for?
You really need to get another head strap for it, especially if you are having trouble keeping the headset in the sweet spot. Unseul gave some good tips, measure your IPD and set the headset to the closest setting to your actual IPD. Makes a difference.
Just about your Burner account for Facebook, is it a fake account? or an account using real details, just you aren't using it at all??
Sidequest is worth getting. It allows you to access files and folders on your Quest 2, so you can mod some games. It also gives you access to games that aren't on the Oculus Store. And more game demos. Another useful feature is that it can backup your games and data from the Quest 2, so if you have to factory reset it, you won't lose any progress. Not all games save to the cloud.
Between setting 1 and 2, almost right in the middle, so definitely try it inbetween the two.
So that is one of the compromises with the Quest 2, for better clarity your only real options are the G2 and VP2 (or one of the PiMax's never tried one of those)On with it now. I do think that a lot of it comes down to expectation as well as its just not as sharp as I expected it to be.
On with it now. I do think that a lot of it comes down to expectation as well as its just not as sharp as I expected it to be. However...
IPD Range Lens Spacing Setting
61 mm or smaller 1 (narrowest, 58 mm)
61 mm to 66 mm 2 (middle, 63mm)
66mm or larger 3 (widest, 68mm)
This would have me at 1 wouldnt it?
Yes, but you can get it inbetween the 1 and the two slot. There's a few ways. Putting something slightly larger (perfectly 2mm) than the gap when it's on setting 1, inbetween, then put it to 2, and close it onto the object. It should stick inbetween. The software adjustments that the quest 2 makes adjust to the position of the screen, not just the 3 defaults. I believe you can also get some sort of 3d printed piece that can hold them at exact IPDs).
In the end, whilst they are almost 4k screens, they're still only a couple of inches from your eyes, and then magnified. You'll also get used to looking by moving your head, rather than your eyes, but the sweet spot on the quest 2 is generally not too bad, so you can use your eyes at least a bit.
Yes but if Im 60mm I dont want it inbetween the 1 and the 2 slot as that would make me over 61mm?
Going to look at a strap to see if it makes any difference on comfort as well.
Slot 1 = 58mm
Slot 2 = 63mm
Slot 3 = 68mm
60mm is in between 58mm and 63mm. Therefore, inbetween 1 and 2 .
Haha I can see where I was going wrong there, I was going off that table and not the actual specs for the quest. Doh.
Any good rec's on a strap?
Don't push through motion sickness, if you feel it, stop. "Pushing through" doesn't work and just means your brain associates vr with feeling sick. Find an easier game to play for a while.
Yeah, I could feel myself starting to go sickly last night so took it off straight away. Going to give Half life a good go tonight and I cant wait.
Games that just use your own movement are a good place to start, so relatively still experiences. Then teleport movement. Then smooth motion. Some games I can run smooth motion with no issues, there's still a couple that smooth turning kills me. I suspect refresh rate may have something to do with it.
Biggest disappointment in this house right now is my 5 year old little girl coming to terms with the fact she cant use it.
