Fish pond advice

Hi,

I have an algae (sp?) problem with my fish pond, we have a big filter etc, and due to it being summer, thus the sun is beating down on the pond longer each day the algae is becoming a bit of an issue, the filter is cleaned out once a day etc,

are there any additives for the water or any other methods to prevent/reduce the algae?

I had a UV filter and that did the job for my pond

Yeh this is a UV filter just doesnt seem to work that great,

When did you last replace the bulb? I changed mine out once a year.

New about this time last year, but the bilb doesnt get dimmer does it? (or is that just me) is not a case of it works or it doesnt?

UV light decreases with age, I replaced mine every 6 months

Hmmm, interesting, thanks for that, ill replace the bulb that could be the problemo as i cant remember it being this bad last year

You want a UV light unit in between the filter and the pond

EDIT: Bit late replying, in that case I would consider replacing your UV light- they aren't that expensive anymore and clearly the one you have doesn't work properly.

Im going to investigate making a home made filter, what you reckon on this:

Plastic container such as a storage box, linked up to filter, i.e. before the filter, the box will be backed with sponge, so it could collect the algi before it enters the UV filter, thus it has less to filter out.

Obviously it would be slightly more technical than that but you get the general idea!

so just to reiterate (sp?)

pond-----> Marshmule2000 filter system (lol)-------> UV filter/pump

its a bit murky as some tool cut the power line (though the casing too, you'ed of thought that you'ed STOP once you hit somthing like that, rather than KEEP HITTING IT. stupid gardener)
