Not yet - end of the month will be a wrecking trip.. been sorting out wire traces and 10/0 hooks for when we switch to anchored also testing the drag settings for the reels.

Have been doing a fair bit of fishing this year sicne the weather has turned nice and i have some festivals coming up, so i decided to grab myself a massive tent for comfort. Unfortunately the first one i had bought was broken, so i bottled it and bought my dream bivvy for around £200 (originally 509!).

bivvy.jpg

It is 11' by 12' and is 5'4" tall, spacious enough for two 6' bed chairs, tables and gear. Has two mozzy nets and three skins for all season use. Super easy and quick to set up since all the poles are built into the very thick tent skin. I cant wait to use it this week at download festival! Normally wouldn't risk bringing a nice tent but i have press pass this year, so my stuff will be safe while i get to sit in with some of the band interviews, have my heart set on meeting Kiss and Motley crue!

Yeah, seems smaller than the specs the retailer gave me but the picture really doesn't do it justice. You can fit a small table and two bed-chairs with room for gear though!

Should have used a banana for scale

Decent bivvy size.. well worth the investment IMOHO..

I fish from boats during daytime, but I've been doing astronomy star parties for the last 5 years. Including -19degC wind chill and 40mph winds. We have an icarus 500 with enclosed canopy, 2KW electric oil radiator, carpet... can get a couple of chairs and table in each compartment .. well worth it if you're going to use it regularly.

Makes you redefine cold when the water freezes in the kettle, icicles on the car, and you use foot long corkscrew steel ground screws to hold the wind break up and park the car in front of that..

Anyone done any squid jigging at the same time as mackerel for bait? Probably not on the same line but two rods and rigs.

ive had squid off the harbour wall at brighton marina on squid jigs but its a bit late for them now, i think they show up again ~september for a short while

Cainer - next sunday out on Sean's "Great White" Charter wrecking trip.. there's a couple of spaces available from what Sean was saying, just look on Facebook for details. It's a large catamaran so less rolling with the sea. Going for Cod, Pollack and Ling .. probably conger too near slack water.

This was earlier this year on the GWII with heavier seas that we'd be expecting on this next trip..

Worth a chat with one of the Hayling/Portsmouth bait shops? Probably can set you up with something. I've heard some negatives about Hookers baits but worth checking around.

i wont be able to make that one nick as cash is a bit tight atm and im away the next day to a chavvy caravan site for a week,
i may well be up for a trip after then though,
as for the crabs.. im going to have a ring-round after the weekend and see what i can find, atm though everywhere is showing as out of stock and we have small tides next week so il probably have to make do with frozen ones and some squid :/

Wife said cryptically she ordered something that is due for delivery today.. turns up and it's from a fishing shop.. she doesn't fish but her dad does coarse fishing.. so been attempting to find out what it is without opening it lol.

Know the feeling - but wife allows me a trip every so often her best mate is married to the mate I go along with, so it gives them the chance todo girlie things with the kids. Got lots going on with the job hunt so it will be end of a very tough week.

^^ your welcome to pop down to Selsey the week after next if you like, il have a beach rod and bait you can use, ive got a caravan there for four nights from next monday, high tides are just after dark so its a prime time for an evening session for smooth hounds/bass :D
it'd be worth checking the wind forcast nearer the time though to see if its worth the drive, also need to see how bad the weed is once i get down there.. WSF forums are full of moans about the seaweed along the south coast :/

This week is not my idea of fun - got 2nd interviews lined up for opportunities in London, Farnborough with possibly more added.

Hmm not sure why but after joining WSF.. I get told to **** off by people and accused of being an ex-member returning. Will contact the mods and nail whatever is causing that.. seem a good bunch, just wanna get out and fish. Probably going cabin fever..

Yeah, the wind is predicted as being ok for boat.. last time we lucked it as the 40+ mph winds dropped just in the morning at about 2am!

All getting impatient for the upcoming trip.

Once I get a job.. I'm tempted to get myself a little DAM Neo Salt Traction/Long Cast and a little fixed spool for lure fishing/spinning whilst the up tide and down tide rods are sat there with bait. Also need to get myself a lever drag reel and re-ring the 50lb rod too as one of the rings zarconium has split..

if your chartering the whole boat with your buddys and they dont mind then thats fine,
having more than 1 rod in the water on boat trips ive been on* will get you some nasty looks lol

* most of the boat trips ive been on ive chartered the whole boat myself and taken my mates, max 5 people, 1 rod each ;)

Last time we had 12 downtide lines - at that point I retired one of my downtide lines as there was about 1 foot between the two lines entering the water.

Normally they're ok with an uptide+gemini because it doesn't move that much. Only on the catch. If I'm down tiding at the same time, it's 12-14oz running ledger lobed side of the boat and straight down with a big bait or feathers just moving with the action of the boat.

I'd be spinning by casting uptide and then pulling the slack.
