Fix tyre or get a new set?

Aren't there conditions on your insurance that the car be well maintained? I imagine they could argue that not changing your tyres in ten years contravenes that.

The car was given an MOT in June on these tyres so they must be OK from a legal point of view.
Either way, I need to get a full allignment done as I bet it is way out.
The blackcircles fitting garage near me can do a front and rear alignment for an estimated 1.5 hours labour.

Do I need to get the allignment done at the same time that I get new tyres or can I drive to a different palce that does snazzy allignment?

Those guys seem to be mentioned on mx5nutz quite a bit for alignment, dont know how close you are to them though

I am guessing but think I am around 70-100 miles away.
Going somewhere for allignment is not an issue, but the issue is the current tyres really need replacing, and if the allignment has not been done for 11 years then it will be a long long way out, which will cause uneven wear to start.

Offtopic: Did you ever make a build thread for your supercharger conversion? :) (Either on OCUk or an MX5 forum).

Nope i didn't on either. Probably should have on at least one :p

Where do you actually live as there are loads of alignment places that know mx5's all over the country

I recently fitted a set of Uniroyal RainExperts to my MX5 in 185/60/14 size - and they're excellent, especially in the wet.

£37ish each from Camskill, plus fitting obviously.

As for alignment, ensure that the place doing it does corner weighting, and I'd recommend getting hold of a full set of alignment bolts, as a few of mine were seized in place and ended up snapping. I've MSN'd you some info :)

Cool thanks, but I am afraid I haven't received a message from you - It could be me just being slow though!
I have just installed MSN Live Messenger and will message you :).

I can get the tyres off Camskill and get an alignment garage to fit them prior to the alignment.

I live on the border of Staffordshire and Derbyshire. I could do Stoke, Derby, Stafford, Burton or Lichfield for an alignment.

Is it OK to drive the car for circa 100 miles with new tyres but without the alignment being done?

My current tyres are fubared and need swapping ASAP. However, the local garage that fits blackcircles tyres had little idea about full alignment. I want to take it somewhere decent to get new tyres then drive it to the good alignment place. I do not want to damage my new tyres. The car does not full left or right under hard braking and the current tyres seem to be wearing evenly, but the steering wheel is not quite straight.

Alternatively I can drive to the alignment place as the also do tyres, but that means driving 50-80 miles on shagged tyres (tread fine, just perished and one tyre leaks from rim) but I did nail it over 100 miles on them before I realised just how old and buggered they were.

Get the new tyres locally and drive to the alignment place, will be fine.

Toyo T1R's
Uniroyal RS2's
Hankook Evo V12's

Were the half decent ones I was pointed towards when looking and I ended up with the Hankooks. My little brother thinks they've worn a bit quicker than they should have with my driving lol. He on the other hand constantly buys part worns and destroys them :/
