So what a crap morning I had.
Couldn't sleep at all. finally got up goes downstairs in to the computer room wals up to the computer pushed the button on the front of my corsair 900d to start my computer, then nothing......I then pushed the button on the front of the case again(thinking I had slipped and not pressed it) nothing again.......... hmmz im thinking. I then smell what smells like electrics burning. I turn the power completely off. then call my son over, I take the panel of the side of my corsair 900d and could not see anything obvious.but could smell the burning. by now im thinking everything is fried, and my computer is dead. normly when i press the button on the front of the case. it starts up then goes off then starts again and boots ect.

At this point im not happy and sense something is wrong and i am swearing like its out of fashion. I then got my son(who is 24 btw, before people say about swearing ect) to watch as I put the psu on nothing, pc doesn't auto start or anything. (no lights on the motherboard nothing)im now thinking whole pc is buggered.

I thoght id try it one more time motherboard lights up this time, bang.......clouod of smoke and a flame comes out of the graphics cards power connectors and just misses my face. i quickly turn off the power.my son looks at me and i look at him, and i said "did you see that" ne replied yes a flame shot out and jsut missed your face" now there was a masive stong smell of electrics burning(if you have ever smelt it you know what i mean) i leave it for 20 mins whilst im swearing and almost in tears come back to it and take the graphics card out and inspect it, nothing obvious damnge wise but omg it stinks of electricle burn. im so dismayed i spent £600 odd pounds on this card.

Now i start to think about the damnge that has happend to my motherboard, i look ove rit and again nothing obvious there i then grab a spare graphics card and put it in my system, and hey presto it works pc starts up as if nothing ever happend.

This was from a cold boot first thing in the morning, so no temps or anythign like that.
The graphics card is a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ti GHz Edition. up to now nps working like a good one, i had never overclocked the card as it came pre overclocked.

Has anyone else ever have this happen ?

Probable a problem with the 12v power - loose PCI-e power connectors and/or a fault with the PCI-e socket itself can cause it due to the current the GPU can be drawing through the connections.

my psu is a Corsair-AX1200 never had a problem with it. the pcie power connectors were fully plugged in and secure. and it was also correctly seated in the pcie slot.

as I sia dit was working completely perfect,
Thanks for the reply

Not had anything like that nor would i want to

Id imagine the card would still be under warranty, though whether they deem the card to be at fault or the psu or pci-e slot is open for debate. :(

Check it's warranty you might be able to get a shiney new card sent to you if it's still got warranty.

My old 7800gtx 256mb died in a similar fashion, but didn't have a power connector fly out of it, it just went with a Pop and a small flame about a inch big shot upwards for a second. Stuck my old x850xt in and it worked fine

Gigabyte offer a 3 year warranty with their cards. Can be redeemed through the etailer or with themselves. Make sure you have a proof of purchase however.

If you have any queries email them at [email protected], they are super fast at responding (under 4 minutes for a few of my emails).

Gigabyte have a good Uk based warranty service the 780 ghz isn't over 3 years old yet so should be fine just a bit of a bummer that's all :(

I had a corsair HX1000 with the shooting flames issue lol. In no way do I think they have bad PSUs just really damn unlucky. I blew up a coolermaster 1200W silentpro gold and a Hiper 580Watt psu in my time too but at least those worked for 6 years each first unlike the Corsair which blew twice inside a year.

Unlucky. On the bright side you have the makings of a most excellent meme right there.

I blew a cheap as chips 750 watt psu several years back and have spent the last 3 years on a Corsair TX850 v2 with no problems, I'm planning on getting a modular soon but only for the cable thing, The TX hasn't missed a beat (touch wood) BOOM!!!
