Got a new car recently with cruise control set it to 71 going up a duel carriageway. Saw a camera thought it's okay 71 won't hurt, got to the end of the dots and flash flash. Pretty sure it was me as I was passing another car but it could have been a car behind me. Am I likely to get a ticket for doing 71 in a 70?

Is the dual carriageway actually a national limit though? Or was there a temporary limit it place. Find it hard to believe 71 would trigger in a 70 limit.

If you got to the end of the dots and flash flash then it was not for you.
The first flash is at the start of the dots and the second is a fixed time later - less than a second (depending on speed limit).

Do they go off randomly at all? I got flashed on the M25 yesterday afternoon, no signposted changes (such as 50 zone) and no speeds on the overhead gantry, I was doing bang on 62mph on the cruise towing a trailer, the nearest car was 30-40metres away.

That's normal on the m25 - I've been flashed loads of times, both over and under the limit, never had a ticket. I suspect the few active overhead gantry cameras are dummy flash units, with the only ones that will actually issue you a ticket being the new side mounted ones.

Was there a barrier between the lanes? I've known people who thought "dual carriageway" meant 2 lanes in one direction. If there's no central reservation and NSL then its 60

Some of the older style cameras that are still around are screwed. I once saw a red light cam that flashed every single car that went by :P
