this has probably been done to death but when can we expect Flash for the iPhone? I know there are work arounds but they're pretty inelegant. Being able to use iplayer on the go would be the icing on the iPhone cake!

Probably at the same time as "copy and paste", that is to say never. I don't remember the last time Apple has caved to public demand, and why should they when people still buy their stuff irrespective of its apparently obvious flaws?

By the way, the BBC already have a version of iPlayer for the iPhone that uses Quicktime - just point Safari to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer on the iPhone, save the page to your home screen - job done :)

I have been looking myself and have yet to find one, you can use iPlayer and some YouTube videos but not all.

Pretty sure they said no flash due to the lite version being rubbish and full version using too much power or something?

They said that about 3G though.

Basically Apple don't want Flash on it for reasons us mere mortals can only speculate on. Maybe they don't want it diluting their Quicktime experience, maybe they have outstanding issues with Adobe, maybe they enjoy watching people moan about missing features and still buy their stuff... who knows. :(

It's a shame it doesn't have Flash support though - there's no technical reason it can't, especially when 1 hour of iPlayer QuickTime will murder the battery in either the 2G or 3G iPhone.

There is a program on cydia that fakes wifi when you use 3g/edge, will that allow you to use iplayer?

The new iPod nano release in September.

Only over wi-fi though not 3G.

Yup, I think thats to stop everyone from ruining the 3G network with it + the quality is very high for 3G streaming. Why the N96 can and iPhone cannot is anyones guess.

Yep, I think they did at some point or though it was not an official response, just a reported answer.

Looks like the Blackberry Storm will be a iPhone beater, i may have to sell my iPhone as the Blackberry does some good things like mms flash maps (better than iPhone) etc. Shame Apple won't pull their fingers out and include flash mms etc. Oh well

Blackberry has a 'click touch screen' apparently. Although it is the same as the iPhone, when you touch the screen it gives some form of feedback which feels like a click. Blackberry doesn't have wi-fi which is annoying but 3G makes up for it I guess. Might have a look when it's out, does seem tempting.

Yeah very tempting as the 3G will most likely work properly, unlike the intermittent O2 3G iPhone.

Hope to god this is a wake up call to the likes of Apple though, theoretically if it wasn't for the long contracts O2 have got people on people could have been leaving in the droves.

We bought a few Samsung F480 Toccos for people around the office and that click feedback screen is just rubbish compared to our iPhones.

Well, I'm sure Apple will worry, but they play off their exclusivity and style. People get an iPhone because it's an iPhone.

Looks like the Blackberry Storm will be another poor iPhone clone

How many touch screen phones claim to be iPhone beaters and fell flat on there faces?

The iPhone has many flaws but I have a feeling it will be some time before the crown is stolen and by that point Apple should be ready with a new version. How many times after all have we heard of the next iPod killer?

But the iPod didn't lack loads of features and didn't cost a fortune!

Err, no.... I got an iPhone because it's a fantastic device and does everything I need. But I'd still have got an iPhone if it had half the features. It's actually very little do with what it CAN do, it's the WAY that it does it with such an intuitive, responsive interface that makes it for me.

One day another manufacturer will wake up and realise this and perhaps an iPhone killer will come along. I've seen nothing that would tempt me away though, and I am as far from an Apple fanboy as it's possible to be. I wouldn't urinate on a Mac or any other Apple product if it was on fire.....

MS will never have a competitive device until they stop shoving facelifts on top of the same old rubbish, unresponsive kernel.
