Flash lights to get others to move over?

No its not, do you pull in and out of every car on the inside lane??

Oh no sorry we all have to move out of your way because you have the fastest car in the world, sorry my mistake.

Half and half, if there are reasonably large gaps in the inside lane, I'd pull over without dropping speed to let them past, and once they've gone and you need to, get back in the outside lane.

This.

One thing I saw that still makes me RAGE when I think about it.

It was at night on the A406, steady traffic in the fast lane, doing around 60 in a 50, lots of cars in front of me.

This freaking idiot comes up behind me, right on my arse with his full beams always on. They reflected in my mirrors and blinded me so I HAD to move over. This guy not only did it to me, but everyone in the fast lane.

I just indicate right, and make sure I'm as far over to the right as possible.

Only had to flash once, but indicating right seems less aggressive so might us that if it happens again in future.

If I get flashed (not that I am likely to see it with the crap rear visibility of the Octavia) then I make sure to pull over as soon as possible... followed by dropping two gears and nailing it as soon as Mr 2.0 TDi pulls along side.

Immature? yes, but it makes me smile :o

And not going to work either. For you to be able to nail your car when someone is overtaking you would mean you having enough space in front of you in the middle lane to do so. Well, if you were on the right hand lane in the first place, it implies the lane(s) to your left would have slower drivers in front anyway who were stopping you driving fast and whom you were overtaking. Unless of course, you are hereby admitting to sitting in the right lane when the left lanes are clear!

That is b*******s. Unless the inside line is absolutely jam packed.

So what your saying is that if you come up behind somebody doing 70mph in the fast lane overtaking a bunch of 60mph lorries then they should immediately pull in behind one of the 60mph vehicles and slow down accordingly to avoid hitting it just to let you past 10 seconds sooner?

As an ADI I come across people who just invent 'Rules' all the time. Highway code is clear you should NOT use your headlights as a form of signalling.

On a motorway the dangers are increased because of the greater speed.

Problem with flashing your headlights is not only the driver in front sees them. (unless you're right up the arse of the car in front, which is when most flash) Everyone in front sees them, so the 10 or so blokes in front are all looking in their mirrors to see whats happening and that's not counting the cars on the other carriageway. And some wil touch their brakes because they think they've been nicked for speeding.

Now it could be bloke in front is just a dick sitting in the outside lane doing 70, if he is chances are he doesn't really no what to do on a motorway, flashing him will either scare him or provoke him if he's a tit. But you're just as in the wrong for flashing him..

People forget the whole point of safe driving is to get from A-B safely, not a quickly as they like and end up at 'C' which is normally intensive care if your lucky if it happens at speed.

We all get ****ed of when idiots or nutters wind up, trick is not to become one yourself.

Safe driving....;);):D:D

This i agree but im not going to pull into a small gap that i have to slow down for.
MikeHiow seems to think i should move out of his way all the time.

Where have I said this? Overtaking lots of 60MPH traffic is fine, if there is no space to pull in.

I'm not saying you have to squeeze in a cars gap to let people by, but pulling over into the other lane for a few seconds where a sizeable gap exists, even if you have to slow down a bit will not hurt you.

The fact of the matter is, someone else wants to go faster than you, why are you so obsessed with holding them up?

Wouldn't bother me providing they haven't flown up behind me and sat 1 meter off my bumper flashing them like a **** jockey.

If they're a few car lengths behind 2 flashes will be plenty and give me time to move over before you decide to park it up my rear.

Though I never sit in the fast lane and move over regulary to let people past who do wish to drive faster as I know how annoying it is when some pleb is oblivious to the rules of the road!

That's why I love my auto-dimming mirror

Guy did similar to me, flashing his lights, full beam and all sorts trying to dazzle me. I just sat there grining ear to ear. I swear the guy was close to blowing an artery he was so angry. He was throwing all sorts of hand gestures at me. At one point I could make out him smacking his steering wheel with one hand when he realised I wasn't going to move

This little show of rage only made me want to stay in front of him more

Being a class 1 driver I find it hilarious when some IDIOT tries to undertake me at roundabouts etc & then nearly gets crushed by my trailer.

most lorry drivers ive spoken to with similar incidents tend to say they barely feel/hear it when they anihilate a car on the road.

bet the car driver would feel it, but id still bet they wont learn a thing from it

Watching someone undertaking everyone else behind me just makes me want to indicate and swerve out of my lane and back in again to teach the idiot a lesson.

If i am in the inside lane and somebody appraoches behind me, i will usualy already have seen this and moved before they had chance to flash me. Unless there isnt anywhere to move over safely in which case i will just wait until there is. Thought it was pretty normal?

You shouldn't, no, but that doesn't justify their flashing and whatever else.

what justifies you to be sat in lane 2-3-4 etc if youre not overtaking anyone?

the thing that makes my blood boil most is when im trucking along in lane 1, i catch up with another car in lane 2. for me to overtake the socially acceptable way i need to travel across THREE lanes to pass him or just undertake
