Flash = The future?

They may be an option but hard disks with spinning platters are going to here for some time to come, in fact I've just seen an announcement from Hitachi for a new tech that allows the read heads on to be shrunk even further making way for the release of 4tb disks in 2009.

I would love all my DVD's stored on my pc so all i have to do is click on the film i want to watch on an HTPC. However, i have hundreds of DVD's, and dont know of a decent enough program to do this easily while keeping the FULL DVD quality as if i put the disk in.

doesnt dvdshirnk allow you to do that?
you can copy whole content of the dvd onto your hdd or you can compress it to fit a normal dvd,
btw it is a free program :)

lol...

Why would you only need to back up pirated dvd's?

Some people would use large hard drives to back up legitmate dvds. Plus there are other uses for large hard drives, animation, video editing etc

How? i dont think its legal to take an image of a game or indeed a film from disc...

i have a 250gb hdd at home on my PC and i would struggle to fill it quickly with 100~% legal content... unless i had real deep pockets!

You're allowed images from your own games. I have mine all in ISO format on my storage drive. Makes installing games after a reformat so much quicker.

4TB? Who needs more then 1tb. Infact i dont even need 250gb. Really you guys are obsessive downloaders!

And i see zefan got you with your sig :p

Yeah 1st gilly then zefan now badass I jus can't seem to please

anyhow back on topic

Some would feel the need to back up pirated DVD's unless you were the pirate in which case I'm sure thee olde image will be on thy PC! Yarg!

Also IMO it's the end of the classic HDD as the technology for in this particular area advances. In 5-6 years we'll all prolly be using flash.

If you look at the current performance of flash drives you can see that they are already surpassing hard drives, with much reduced loading times.
