Flashed by speed camera

All of this would be easily solved by posting a Google Streetview Link of the camera itself.

ACPO Guidelines is charge at 10%+2 meaning 35mph in a 30. I'd be amazed if anyone got charged at 32 outside of Scotland, hell there was a bet going on PH for many a moon with £100 reward for someone able to provide proof if they were charged below the guidelines..

£100 quid in exchange for higher insurance premium for god knows how long it is? Seems a bargain

It definitely flashed from front facing and dont think there were white lines on the road, cant quite remember if there was a car on the other side as i had just finished work on a night shift, thanks for the advice though guys!

Edit - if anyone wants the road name, it was along the a146 in norwich on barrett road

Was it a Truvelo camera by any chance? There's quite a few around Norwich these days.

There's one on the way in to Norwich on the A146. I forget which village it's in, but it's where the road goes down to a 40mph limit. I was doing about 36-38 through that one and noticed an orange flash from that one. Obviously didn't hear anything about it as I wasn't speeding, but I guess they do flash from time to time, maybe depending on lighting conditions??

All the speed cameras around my way seem to be disappearing :)

Only to be replaced by Average Speed Cameras instead :(

Yeah, very annoying. Got a few setup on the Forth Road Bridge that stretch for about 3-4 miles. They are just temporary (I hope) while the new bridge is under construction. I know they are not all functioning, I just don't know which ones. :p

It's funny watching some people speeding by and braking when they get to each camera...

I wonder how many speed cameras have actually 'caused' an accident?

I think there was a case some years ago where a Coroner, in his summing up, suggested that Pedestrians should avoid attempting to cross the road in the vicinity of speed cameras because of the higher risks involved.

just to add if you do 130 in a 70 and get flashed by a camera you wont get a ticket if your rear numberplate has fallen off.
friend of a friend told me.

Are lcd/led panel numberplate a thing yet? You could link them to the in-car PC and have them displaying your perfectly legal plate 99% of the time but with a few quick clicks they could be changed to any plate you desire, including ones for the same make/model you're driving.

Youe colleagues are mistaken / lying.

35 is the minimum you can get fined at in a 30. Nobody ever in the history of the internet has been able to show a ticket issued for less than 35 in a 30.

I was caught by a van doing 33 in a 30 and got a fine.

So....

Not true, its guidance only

the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) suggests police forces don’t prosecute until drivers exceed a margin of error of 10 per cent of the speed limit to take into account driver concentration, plus 2mph for speedometer error.

This means that most police forces will not prosecute until you’re driving at more than 46mph in a 40mph zone, for example, or 79mph in a 70mph zone. However, it should be noted that the guidance is exactly that, and that the decision over whether to give a driver a speeding ticket or not is entirely at the discretion of individual police forces and officers.

NPCC speed enforcement guidelines

Speed limit Min speed for a speeding ticket Min speed for prosecution
20mph 24mph 35mph
30mph 35mph 50mph
40mph 46mph 66mph
50mph 57mph 76mph
60mph 68mph 86mph
70mph 79mph 96mph
As an alternative to an FPN, most forces offer a speed awareness course. This is a course which takes place on one day, and as its name suggests, is intended to make participants more aware of their speed.

It’s offered only at the force’s discretion and cannot be requested.

ANybody know how you stand with the subcontracted mout camera vans?>

Got a notice at work saying a driver was speeding but he denies it and we have requested proof from the polices eg a picture and got a letter from the police saying there are no pictures and they dont legally have to have one. The machine registered the no plate and the fact it was speeding and that is all that is required.

Is that correct? You can be fined now with no proof?

I'm well aware that it's guidance only, but it seems to be guidance that's universally followed. If I was feeling charitable, I could just about believe that an inexperienced / nasty police officer would write someone a ticket for less than 35 in a 30 (although despite literally thousands of people posting on the internet about it, I've yet to see a single ticket).

But I don't believe a fixed camera or a camera van would issue one: do you not find it odd that despite several people posting on this thread about it, we've yet to see one? And do you not find it even more odd that the same is true for literally every thread ever about this subject?

I remember a few years back one of my neighbours (very respectable guy, retired headmaster) told me he got a ticket for 31 in a 30. I was talking to him about it only a few weeks after the event. Could he show me the ticket? No.....

I've even had people on other forums telling me I'm an idiot, I'm lying etc, only to come back the next day and say "oh yeah, it was actually 35 in a 30, thought it was 32, sorry about that"

No, because if I had got a ticket for doing 33 in a 30, I wouldn't go looking for it, take a picture of it, edit out the personal details, upload it to imgur, and embed it in one of my posts, just to prove I'm not a liar to one person who has chosen to disbelieve what I'm saying. ;)

I'm sure most people have better things to do!

Besides, I see no reason why anyone would want to lie about it.

I don't see any reason why people would want to lie about it either, but it seems they either lie or they're mistaken.

There was a guy on PH who offered to pay £100 to anyone who could show him one, nobody took him up on it. There's plenty of threads on sites like fightback forums with pictures of tickets, strangely none of them for less than 35 in a 30.

This page says -
Speed limit: 30 mph
ACPO charging threshold: 35 mph
Summons: 50 mph

So probably all ok? Only way to be sure is to wait 14 days.

I got front flash by a speed camera in Norwich the other night also just off a roundabout.

I have recieved the NIP saying 35 in a 30. I Thought it was a 40 so was doing almost that. (It was empty 2am ish).

I thought it was a bit odd being front flashed, it was a WTF moment. Now I'm also wondering why only 35 when I was doing more as my speedo is accurate.

if you were doing "almost 40" it suggests you weren't quite sure how fast it was, so it could have been an indicated 36 - 37? Which is likely an actual 35.

How do you know it is accurate? Every speedo over-reads a little bit. With the exception of calibrated speedo's used in some police cars etc.

Because I was just about to hit 40 when it flashed.

And, okay I'm only going on a few 'this is your speed' signs for reference...but they all seem to match up with sign saying 30 and speedo saying 30! :)

I'll borrow a sat nav and see.

Edit: Fwiw I've had a clean driving license for smegging ages, not had a speeding ticket for 9 years either, damn it! Plus I'm the type to not drive right up your arse and! I don't drive around with summer tyres on in winter....lol.

The Flash was the most annoying bit to be fair. Though the £100 seems a lot! But I'll probably learn something at the awareness course (if they offer one?) how much do they cost now?

Bad luck in any case!

And in British winters, 95% of the time a winter tyre will be worse than a summer tyre with good wet performance... :p
