Flashed by Traffic Light Cam

Were you coming into notts from Mansfield way then? The ram is the opposite end of Arnold to the vale. If you need any pics of it shout up, the vale is only about 1km away, I can walk down there (google image might help to pin point where you were).

I was stopped at a red light at the front, two lanes of traffic and a central reservation (with a fence running along the middle of the road). An Ambulance came up behind me with its lights and sirens blazing and I had to move forward infront of the red light ( but no so much as to block the junction). There was no camera but if i had of get points/fined for that i would SERIOUSLY contested it.

So you all think i should have just waited

No, you should have stopped with enough space to move out the way in the first place. And yes, you're going to tell me there was a fence, but on any dual carriageway, if both lanes move to the far side there will be room for an ambulance to pass down the middle

Take a pic of the lines. If they are sufficiently worn enough, you may have grounds for appeal.

The only grounds for appeal i can see is that he might not have been moving when the light was triggered. Lines being worn isn't an excuse, as has been said a few times you stop behind the lights, not the lines

I hope you're joking!

It wouldn't be unlucky for the ambulance, but it would be for the person who could be dying waiting for it to arrive.

Personally I'd be able to live with some points and a fine, whereas I wouldn't knowing I helped delay an ambulance and possibly lead to a death in an attempt to save myself £60.

I'll always stop before the line, however, if there was a situation now where I'd have to cross and be penalised to let an emergency vehicle past... I'd seriously consider holding ground until lights were green.

The fine is not the issue, it's the points that would make me think twice.

Not up to me to sort the law out, there's no way I'm going to put myself on the wrong end of it to be a good samaritan. It's ridiculous that people can be punished for trying to get out the way.

highly doubt youd get an NIP if you were letting emergency services out? probably explains why you get tards sat there at the lights with a blues and twos going behind them because theyre scared theyll get sent to prison for crossing the white line

... i normally see blues and twos as an excuse to sod the traffic and get out their way. ive definately gone through red lights before to clear space to let them out, even once it wasnt viable for a copper to pass me but the road ahead of me was clear, so i just pinned it, actually left him behind and then pulled in at a bus stop ahead to let him by

Worryingly enough, I don't think many safety camera partnerships would give you much leeway and you have no leg to stand on legally. If there was a camera I wouldn't cross the line - and that breaks my philosophy of "common sense should prevail".

the way i see it is that if i were in the ambulance dying, or it was someone i really cared about, id want people to USE THEIR BLOODY BRAIN and move out the way.

if im joining a roundabout with an ambualnce approaching from behind ill join the roundabout but block traffic joining from the right hand so the ambulance to get through easier.

if a driver would be penalised then that makes me loose all sorts of faith in humanity!!

Indeed, however, it's understandable as to why people would be reluctant to accept points on their license for an emergency vehicles benefit.
It's a selfish world and insurance only gets more expensive.

well im obviously too helpful for my own good

i didnt put it down to other drivers being selfish, i just thought they were stupid and couldnt work out how to move out the way

I was going back towards the M1 to go on to Derby. I don't think I'd be able to pin point the actual set of lights as I seem to remeber there being more than 1, but I'll have a look. It was dark and wet :D

I guess I play the waiting game now for a letter.

Edit: Looking at it, it might be the ones outside the Vale. But on google maps there is no traffic light camera.
