Flight restrictions on liquid

I'm off to Amsterdam, then Munich, then Stockholm then back to Heathrow all in the space of a week for a little mid holiday term getaway :)

My question is, knowing the limit is 100ml on liquids for hand luggage, can I get away with buying 3 100ml bottles of the same stuff? As if that's the case, it's silly. If not, then I'm an idiot for questioning.

I am backpacking, and if I am honest, with several flights throughout the week, I don't want to spend an extra 30 mins each time waiting for my backpack to be unloaded. So will just take it on as hand luggage.

Cheers

In my recent experience it's 30ml, that's not to say it's not different for diff countries though. And as above if you have several bottles of stuff prepare to be fiddled with.

Blurgh, looks like I will be buying razors, shaving cream and washing stuff each time I land then haha. Oh well.

You'll probably get questioned for not having any toiletries then! "Return ticket sir? Why have you not got any personal items? Please step aside for a strip search".

"But sir, I have no lube!!?!?! PLEASE GOD NOOOOOOOO"...

All of that adventure, before I even land in Amsterdam :(

They don't enforce it very rigorously anyway. Was at an airport with my sister and her kid (my niece) not too long ago and my sister had a 1 litre bottle of water on her, when the guard asked about it she just said it was for the toddler and they waved her through and let her keep it.

That is fine. The rescritions are as follows:

Containers must hold no more than 100ml
Containers must be carried in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
Contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
The bag must not be knotted or tied at the top
Each passenger can carry only one of these bags
The bag must be presented for examination at the airport security point

If you wanted you could take approx 800ml of the same liquid provided it's not in anything more than 100ml bottles. Yes does make a mockery of the system, but there is nothing about not taking multiple items.

They may ask why you have more than 1, but I doubt it.

Just check your backpack in. In most airports by the time I've reached the luggage carousel the bags are already going around anyway so I doubt you'll be waiting that long for your backpack. It also saves the hassle of buying things like razors and bottles of anything over 100ml everytime you fly.

I thought as long as all your items fit into one of the plastic bags then you're fine.

You can take razor blades onboard. And you hardly need 300ml of washing stuff to wash for one week!?

Depends who you are flying with... This could easily cost more than the flights itself in some cases.

You can carry whatever toiletries you can fit into that plastic bag as long as the individual containers within are no more than 100ml.

I find this fine for a few weeks, remember this bag is just for your liquids/gels/pastes only, not all your toiletries.

Amsterdam weekend, Then fly to Munich for Oktoberfest, then to Sweden, Stockholm to see my friend for another crazy weekend... I will want to shower at least twice a day haha. One for the wakeup and one before going out. And probably one before sleeping.

I was even worse in India! 4 showers a day :( Bit of an obsession of mine. Like to have a lot of showers.

I think I will just risk it, worst case. The stuff goes into the bin and I have to buy it over there.

You can buy little 30ml containers in a clear plastic wallet from Boots, made especially for flying. I went to the Dam last month and I got through customs with it ok.

Whenever you get given a toiletry bag on a flight I just fling it in my hand luggage, never been asked to take the contents out and put them in a plastic bag.

With the above in mind I find it really odd they insist you bung your other liquids in a plastic bag.

You'll be fine; I flew this weekend with just carry on to/from Barcelona. I stupidly bought sun block out there in a 400ml bottle. Poured the stuff into four of the hotel free shampoo/shower gel bottles (100ml each) and kept the empty 400ml empty bottle - also in backpack for re-combining once home again. They didn't even raise an eyebrow.

It depends in some countries I found...

Bottles of water/drink bought in departures got taken off us in Singapore for example where we were allowed _no_ fluids in hand luggage.... In KL last year they didn't care one bit about my litre of Gin :D

i never understood these rules - there are no simple liquid explosives that could be used in this way.

Means the hundreds and thousands of passengers are forced into the shops for a drink as massively inflated "airport" prices. Simple.
