I watched Flight last night and I wanted to get everyone else's opinions on it.

I'm a massive Denzel fan and Zemeckis is obviously a legend, but the film didn't do anything for me. The first 20 minutes were great, and then it just lost itself from then on and came to a pretty lame conclusion. As an atheist the religious undertones just got a bit too much after a while as well.

The annoying thing is there were a few really awesome scenes throughout but I wouldn't recommend watching it. The thing is is it's got 7.4 on IMDB so I'm clearly missing something. I'd give it a 5.

I would recommend it seeing as it's good. A 5 is ridiculously low, that puts it on par with films like herbie fully loaded. A 6.5 would probably be a lower quartile score for this, the only issue I had with it was the seemingly odd bunch of characters he chose to associate with.

As someone else said in the other thread, hadn't seen many trailers/info, just the one and I was expecting the film to be mainly about how he managed to land the plane and save so many people and then have the company trying to figure out how he did it too :p :o

But instead it was about people that are alcoholics and/or druggies and over coming their addiction so was a bit disappointed in some ways :p

However, I enjoyed it a lot! The whole airplane scene was one of the best scenes I have seen in a while (since the TDKR).

Everything in the first 20 or so minutes was pretty cool, basically the entire plane-flight-to-crash sequence. Then it just descended into drudgery and predictability. I guessed the ending half-way through, too damn obvious and unoriginal. I was pretty disappointed and would say a 5/10 for the story, acting and everything else would get a 7/10.

I thought it was good, well acted, well directed. Can see how not everyone would like it though. Did well for a small budget too, heard Denzel and Zemeckis took big pay cuts to get it made.

From the plot point of view, it was quite a dull and uninspiring film with a predictable ending. And some of the acting was more than a little wooden in places. However there was something about it that made me enjoy it a little more than I expected, so overall I'll call it average.

agreed the crash was brilliantly film and acted, the general plot after that was good, but I feel they went too far, as whilst you could emphasis with his situation you never fell sorry for him. They should have played the alcoholic card less tbh and added more about his emotions of the actual crash etc and how he tried to get over them, as apposed to just turning to drink.

One thing that made me laugh was him pouring away all the booze in his old shack but bringing back more bottles the following day and getting drunk there.

I thought it was a good film. If you went in expecting an action film, you were always going to be disappointed. I can understand how the trailer and advertising may mislead in that regard...

The film concentrates on the protagonists long struggle with alcoholism, which I thought was acted very well indeed and took you on a journey from his point of view from the plane crash to his eventual conclusion of this (without giving too much away). I found the plot surprisingly grounded (no pun intended) and real. Dialogue wasn't fantastic, but reflected the gritty realism of the situation Whip finds himself in. You'll find his struggle pull on the viewers emotions thanks to the slow, evolving setup and glimpses into his life before the accident.

I would say 7.5/10 is apt. Compared to some other films I've seen recently (that score higher on IMDB), this is actually better in my opinion. Highly recommended!

He didn't turn to drink. He was already an alcoholic.Seems most of you in this thread have missed the point entirely of this movie.

Can I ask from all the people who have posted in this thread how old you all are please?

You lot sound like this....

Loved the first 10minutes, after that it was pretty crap :-(

Was that because you were expecting a disaster movie? I love the fact people dis movies based on their own expectations. When in fact the film is not even about it.Or never intended to be.
