Flight

Girlfriend also made a good point in that it seemed like a mishmash of 'comedy' and drama. There were quite a few funny bits (him leaving the hotel room with aviators, relationship with Don Cheadle, plane inversion, John Goodman's character etc) but it was weird that they were spliced in between some pretty serious alcoholism drama. It felt like it couldn't decide what it wanted to be.

And as people have said the marketing for it was way off (and even the title of the film imo). Rightly or wrongly expectations do effect the final film and that's usually why I hate seeing trailers or reading reviews just in case.

No offence but that's not that good of a point. Loads of films combine comedy with serious drama, some with great effect (e.g. Argo).

Death of a Salesman

Pathos and humour

You are absolutely right that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. That applies to everything. But to discount it just because it mixes pathos with humour is flawed.

Distinctly average.

Worth a download or if it's on TV, it's not a terrible or unwatchable film. Quite easy to switch your brain off and watch, I wouldn't buy it though.

I thought it was an alright movie made great by a spectacular Denzel Washington. Seriously, in the last twenty minutes of the film, he is absolutely superb. It's worth watching the movie just for the hearing at the end, and afterwards.

Can I ask from all the people who have posted in this thread how old you all are please?
Totally irrelevant. I'm very sorry you don't appear to agree with the general consensus of this movie, but we all watched it and we all have an opinion. Cheap pokes, and nods to Youtube videos in a way of proving a point is really not a good way of conducting yourself.

and he turned to drink again after the crash....that was my point.

I watched the first 20 or so minutes then turned it off, Think it was about the time that Doris was going to massage his feet/leg whatever.
Not watching it right the way through is maybe not the way to judge a film but it just lost my interest & I couldn't be bothered to waste an hour to watch the rest.

I thought the film was alright really, I enjoyed it anyway - a good performance from all the actors. I doubt I'd watch it again though, I'd maybe give it 6 or 7 out of 10.

The thread definitely needs spoiler tags.

Watched this at the weekend.

Totally thought it was going to be a disaster movie. When it got onto alcohol etc etc, i felt let down. Although bearing through turns out i enjoyed it.

Gave it a 5/10. Its no man on fire now is it :).
