Flint 2 or Flint 3

Also, Winbox is crap :D
Got it :D
The reason I asked was firstly I have all Mikrotik gear but without the usb connectivity, and I also came from OpenWrt, strange but true. I don't use heavy containers just an rpi4 8GB version which suits me well. But I want to put it all together in one box and future proof a little. Now I could give another angle that all High Speed fibre has stalled around here and I only have the option of 2Gbps Cable when they decide to do so. So looking at it again, I might as well wait and see what the RB5009 refresh looks like as I don't need Matter/Thread support or WiFi7 yet. The storage would be nice though and 6Ghz to get away slightly from the clutter around us.

Thanks for your thoughts and clarification.

I'm trying to decide whether to get a Flint 3 is the best option. I know the 4 was just announced at CES but I need a 2.5GBit/s capable router in the next week as I get full fibre installed a week on Monday.

Certainly seem some people love the 3, yet others aren't so keen, especially those with a 2 as it doesn't appear to offer much over their existing hardware.

Other routers are options too, but I'd read the Flint 3 was highly rated.

Start with the obvious, what functionality do you specifically need beyond whatever your ISP supplied router (if they supply one) will provide? The upgrade from 2 to 3 wasn’t really worth it for exiting users, buying new is a different prospect.

The other option is to throw the money at something x64 along the lines of an N100 or small Ryzen box with dual 2.5Gb, or repurpose an older SFF box with a dual 2.5Gb NIC, no WiFi (I would argue that was a good thing as you’d run your own AP/mesh nodes anyway), but reasonable power efficiency and performance, can run *WRT/*Sense etc. but will need a 2.5Gb switch it really depends on what you actually need.
