If you remove the Chinese software and install vanilla OpenWrt don't you lose the proprietary blobs and ASIC accelerators?
Not on the 4, no. It's back to Mediatek, so the packet processing engine and wireless accelerator are both available to *WRT, rather than closed proprietary blobs in the way you'd see from Qualcomm or similar. Vanilla OpenWRT will be fine on the 4, as it is on the 2. The PHY choices and design on the 4 doesn't tickle my fancy, but it should be a capable home router with good upstream support.

Cross-posted from the WiFi7 router recommendation thread

Still waiting for mine too but there seems to be an issue with UK localisation:

The really early-bird price was £229 and I missed that by seconds. @Cromulant and I got the standard early-bird price of £249 then it went up to the pre-order price of £266. I expect there'll be offers on it as soon as all the pre-orders are done and there's stock available.

Thread needs renaming to

" Flint 4 - (early-bird) Discussion Thread "

For me personally £330 is a little too rich, I would rather future proof with a decent router/self-build that's capable of multi-gig packet filtering / VPN speeds

Had mine delivered the other day and managed to get in on the super early bird plus got a 10% discount so picked it up for £207. Not really using it to its full extent but seems to run well. Only thing I’ve found is that some of the features are disabled if you have the network hardware acceleration enabled.

What are your impressions ? What' the factory OS ? (presumed a modified version of openwrt)
I had heard that you can run native openwrt on it
My impressions are pretty good so far. The factory OS is fast and fairly easy to use. As I said earlier the touch screen is a bit too small to be useful but you can set a PIN so random people can't change the settings. I'm quite happy with it so far.
