*FLOODED BATH, CEILING ABOUT TO COLLAPSE*

If I was in the OPs position, like someone has already stated, I would take up the floorboards and start soaking up any water. I would also drill a few holes in the ceiling/plasterboard below.

Will the whole ceiling/joists all come down because of this water spillage. Answer: No. Unless of course the joists are suffering from some sort of rot in the first instance, but even then, I think its unlikely.

After a few weeks of drying time, I think your ceiling below will need replacing. For a small room like a bathroom, this wont cost too much. It will require the existing plaster (or plasterboard) to be taken down and then brand new plasterboard screwed in. After this, a thin layer of plaster will be skimmed across the boards. A few weeks later, paint the ceiling and job done.

If the water damage is not serious and the ceiling below isnt damaged, then like someone has pointed out in a post above, after the dry-out phase, paint the ceiling with some stain block paint, followed by the under/top coats.

I think the OP is pannicking as he doesnt know much about how houses are built-up, which is a natural response. You fear what you know little about.

My sister managed to do this at hers the other month which resulted in the roof going through lol. If it hasn't gone through yet you're probably gona be fine.

Could be worse... a lot worse... like my bro's old house which was a new build, and he had been in there a few days.

Outside drain blocked up, sewage backed up after loads of rain. Pipe was not attached properly in the ceiling over the kitchen. This pipe was connected to one of his upstairs toilets. Sewage filled up the ceiling. Yep, you guessed it.

I noticed that something was up when the water didnt go down in the bathroom sink upstairs. Then I came downstairs and noticed water (smelly water) dripping through some new cracks in the ceiling.

Took the builders a few weeks to sort out the mess.

Half a concrete block was found in the sewer pipe outside the house.

One of his friends also moved into a new build around the corner. His wife had a first bath in the new house. Pulled the plug out of the bath and it emptied into the ceiling. Pipe wasnt attached. River downstairs.

Copthorn I think the company was called that built the nightmare places.

Richie.

Fire is a natural enemy of water... or in other more forum applicable words "kill it with fire" ;)

the first time this year i've laughed just after reading "kill it with fire", it's so overused!

you'd think the ceiling beneath would weaken, not the roof of the house!

My guess is that he is currently involved in a MASSIVE mop-up operation. He is frantically trying to dry up any water that he can see.

Or perhaps he woke up and realised posting to overclockers isn't really the main priority in a minor disaster?
