Florida theme park tickets

SDK^, mind if I ask which sites you have looked at for tickets?

I am going to Florida in May this year with my Sister's family, she has a 4 and 2 year old and they can't wait! We went two years ago as well and I can definitely say the theme park tickets are the main thing that have gone up in price, at least by around £200 in two years.

This year we got ours from https://www.floridatix.com as they let you put an initial deposit down and pay off the rest in either bits at the time or in one go at least a month before departure.

It might be worth asking your question on the following forums as there will be a ton of people that have been multiple times and would know the best kind tickets to get, be it a combo one or direct - https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=45 - that site has a whole good source of information and has helped me out many times.

I found Universal and Islands of Adventure the best parks over all but nothing will beat Busch Gardens and going on Falcon's Fury

I was just looking around the web to a get an idea of the theme park costs. Previously (2007 to 2009) the sites had 1 day ticket prices but now it's just multi park tickets open for 7+ days :(
We booked the holiday last September for 20th May to 4th June and I have a budget of £8k for 2 adults and 1 child, so cost isn't a concern. I was just hoping to find out the park costs before we went.

Thanks for the Forum link :)

It's nothing like chav central, not even close. Me and my girlfriend are on decent wages and it isn't something we'd do every year due to the cost

I think it depends a bit time of year and what is popular at any given time - not been myself but heard varying stories from family who've been at different times on that aspect. (EDIT: Or it might just be different people's perceptions)

Are 1 day tickets going to be that much cheaper online? I've been to Disney and Universal in FL and LA and always just paid at the gate. It was under $100 every time.

Not sure about the chav central stuff either. I've never had a problem at any of them in the summer or autumn

Unless you have really young kids, Disney's magic kingdom and Epcot centres aren't really that interesting. MGM studios is ok but still has some old rides.

Universal is much better IMO

We spent Christmas day 2014 in Universal and it was great.

I disagree with the Disney and young kids claim, I'm 31 and first went to WDW in 06', I was in the "Disney is for kids" boat but I went and we just had one day in the Magic Kingdom and I loved it, so much so, that the year after me and the then girlfriend booked a full Disney holiday, staying on site for the whole two weeks.

It's horses for courses but Disney is not just for the kids.

I have always wondered is the Disney holiday experience as expensive for the natives?

Usually cheaper but then again you don't get an American family spending two weeks in Disney, at most they'll probably stay for a week at most. But, if they stay in a Deluxe Resort, Polynesian, Contemporary or Grand Floridian, compared to a UK family who stay in a Value resort for a fortnight, prices might be very similar.

For a family of four you're looking at the following minimum:

Flights: £2k
Theme park tickets £2k
Accomondation £1k

Put food, travel, additional theme parks/excursions and gifts on top and it's £8k easily, probably more like £10k. I don't know many chav families but I don't imagine they can afford to spend 10 grand on a holiday.

Should meet the ones near me roar. 100k cars on the drive, 2 holidays a year easily. All complete chav scum.

We are leaving India at the end of April and apart from a quick stop of home in the UK we will be in Orlando for 5 weeks. Then a week in NYC before a week home in London before we go back to Ahmedabad.

We ( 2 adults and 2 kids)won't get any change out of 20k I reckon.

You visiting relatives / friends or business in Orlando?

I live in Florida, and wanted to take the kids to Universal for the day... Ended up just buying the annual pass for $1200, cos i was going to be like $400 for one day ONE park ???? wtf !!! so just said the heck with this and bought the annual pass no black out dates, both parks. Been enough times to last a lifetime.. will not be going back, til the kids have beards !

So I've done some number crunching tonight :

Buying tickets at the gate for the parks we want : £1083
Buying an 11 park pass for 14 days : £1417
Saving : £334

My partner only wants to go 3 parks, so it doesn't make sense to go for the 11 park pass for me and my son, as we will never see her.

Business in NYC and London only, I tagged work onto the end of the trip because my wife hasnt been to NYC yet, so it was a good excuse to take her.

We are renting a huge villa out there, and we have relatives from the UK/US coming at different times over the five weeks.

5 weeks does seem excessive, and it has been triggered by my wife on the following basis.

1)India hits 50 degrees in May and June, we don't want to be there for it
2)Our flight itinerary is going to cost 5k if we stay for 5 or just 2 weeks. The only other significant cost difference will be the theme park tickets. At the moment its looking at around 4k to 4.5k for the time we are there, but one of those links mentioned earlier on a quick look indicates that I can probably do it cheaper.
3)My son, daughter, and myself have birthdays in May and June. We wanna be there for it.

Work wise, I am self employed, so I can hand over everything to my number 2 while I am away, but still work on my laptop on 'off' (AKA non theme park) days.

As someone with two children I'm somewhat gobsmacked at the thought of 8k for the equivalent of a jazzed up two weeks at Alton towers. You could have an amazing road trip holiday with them in California for a lot less.

I'd much prefer to spend that on several 'better' holidays. As an example, and whilst it wouldn't be what I'd do with my two little ones,we spent half of that for 2 weeks in Bali in a 5* Spa Hotel with only 30 rooms through Kuoni ....

Maybe I'm simply out of touch, but if I had to do Disney, a friend did Euro Disney with his wife and 4 kids for under £1k including accommodation on the park last year for a 5 day stay.

I suppose it depends on what you want as a family holiday. When we lived in the UK we were a 'theme park' family with Merlin annual passes, and we went to one of the main parks (Alton, Thorpe, Legoland or Chessington) at least once a fortnight.

Its the 'thing' that we do or did should I say.

Over here its in short supply. I have taken the kids over to Universal in Singapore, Legoland in Malaysia and Disney in Tokyo. All great, but none of them as good as the 'western' experience.

The last time I went to Orlando was with the missus in 2008 (pre-kids), and we went for 10 days before we took a cruise. 10 days for us was simply not enough. Aside from the pressure of cramming in as much as we could into that time with zero down time (which knackered us, walking from 10am to 7pm in a park all day is exhausting), we didnt get to see it all.

We want to see it all with 'off' days. Hence the villa with a pool and games for the kids.We also have the benefit (with school breaking for summer holidays at the end of April) of missing peak. By the time it gets busy or starts to get busy we will be in NYC or London, and by the time it gets crazy busy, my kids are back at school and normal life resumes.

Still bearing in mind ALL of this, 20k is a tough pill to swallow. I am lucky enough to be able to afford it without finance but still.....its hard to justify. Lets put it this way, we wont be doing it again next year.

The only financial benefit is with some work in the US and London I will be be able to offset some of my costs against my tax bill.

Euro Disney is one theme park as far as I'm aware, Disney World is 6, plus there are 2 Universal Parks, SeaWorld, NASA, and the dozens of other attractions in the area, plus you have great weather in Florida most of the time. It's not really comparable to Alton Towers in any way, 1 day in Alton Towers is plenty, you'd want 2 days for Magic Kingdom alone because of how much there is to see and do.

It's also a completely different type of holiday to a 5* spa holiday, you're walking around all day seeing sights and going on rides, it's not relaxing at all. Ideally you'd have a holiday after Orlando because you need one.
