Flowers for Engagement party

I'm having an Engagement party this weekend and want to take some flowers. Are their particular type of flowers you should get for an Engagement? I've seen these which look really nice: http://www.serenataflowers.com/product.asp?prod=732&refpage=Category:99&position=pos3

Yes my own Engagement party. It's just going to be my family and her family, we've booked a small room in a restaurant.

This sounds like an American thing. Do Englishmen do this? Sounds odd - the wedding is a celebration, this is a celebration of a celebration. Help me out here guys.

You should probably find out what kind of flowers your soon-to-be wife adores and then get those. What kind of flowers does she like?

It's a tradition in our culture, tbh I don't see the point of it apart from putting the ring on her finger which will be awesome!

I see, which culture is it out of interest? Does this mean you propose to her, then only put the ring on later with her family present? Did you have to get her father's permission?

This culture:

The way it works is we met and got to know each other. Once we felt we were compatible we told our parents. We went to their house for intros, then they came to ours. The parents then say "yes we approve of your son/daughter for our son/daughter'. Now were at the part of the Engagement party.

Surely asking your mother would be a better bet? She may have more of an idea of what flowers are culturally appropriate.

Those flowers are beautiful although I personally would not want lilies in any part of my wedding, as I will always think of them as a funeral flower.

I would go with orchids or roses personally

Personally I would love the orchids cause you can keep them - so, at the end of the evening, you could give one orchid plant to each of your parents as a gift maybe?

The second ones look nice although there's more green in there for my liking. I suppose it's all personal preference. The idea behind the orchids is great but they don't look substantial, I always had an idea I'd walk in with a massive display of flowers in a basket lol
