Flying with Big Wod of Cash

Funnily enough i was going to ask a similar question. I'm going to carry £20,000 in cash to Columbia. People recommend putting in it my boxer shorts?

Also, let's pretend i was going to fill some suitcases with Talc Powder, How many suitcases do you think i'd need for like, i dont know, £20,000 worth of talc powder? If it was £50 a gram...

Thanks.

you would pay a lot less per gram if you bought in bulk :p

anyways at your current rate its 400gm which is around about 1lb so only around the size of a small bag of sugar

take it in hand luggage :)

Ummm, Thanks for the replies.....

I have decided to take it in my jacket, zipped up so nobody will see it. Just to clear a few things up, this money is not for;

A) Russian Bride
B) Drug Deal

If i was sensible i would just send it via WestUnion but they charge about £50.

Where are you flying into? I've never had any problems with customs people here in Russia. To make the package even smaller just take it over in 5000 ruble notes (they can easily be sourced in London).

Either way I wouldn't do it, the only circumstances under which I would carry cash rather than employing the services of a bank would be if it was for purposes less than legal.

The problem being in Russia that cash is still king.

Vodka?

I have this which I use any time I want to take money abroad. Get your money changed into the highest value notes you can, and fold them over each other inside the belt. Should be able to fit most of your cash in there if you fold them neatly.

Never been to another country but why cant you just use a Visa card or Mastercard?:o

What the OP is asking about is quite common practice. I know a number of folks working with charities in the former Soviet Union. They carry cash to support various projects, but would never exceed the legal limits of what can be taken in.

First time I arrived in Colombia, in front of me in the immigration queue were two extremely well-dressed men each with a silver Haliburton case. It didn't do much to assuage my preconceptions... I was trying not to look for fear of getting shot :D

Wow, you've been? more than once? How was it? Was it recreational or business(!)?

I've never really considered it a place where people go. I dont know why, now that i think about it. It's like Bogota though, you just don't!

I'd love to learn otherwise though!

Did those guys have mullets/sunglasses and big mustaches? :D

So do the foil strips on bank notes trigger the metal detector in airports? Just wondering really, but if you have a big wad of notes that's quite a lot of metal. Not sure I'd want to have it down my pants and for it to cause the buzzer to go off!!!
