I had an assessment day on Saturday for a new job position which I've been really looking forward to. Of around 20 who came, throughout the day 15 or so were asked to go home. I made the final five and stayed the duration. We all left without knowing the result of how we'd all done. As far as we all were aware, there were a few positions available.

I woke up today to find an e-mail from the company telling me that after careful consideration I've not been successful on this occassion. I'm absolutely gutted. It sounds silly, but it really felt like a new chapter in my life was finally beginning. Instead, now I'm back where I started and once again a little lost of where to go and what to do with myself. For the last few months I've been building this up in my head. I knew that it was always likely to not materialise but I just always pushed that scenario aside; I didn't want to consider it.

I can't help but feel I may have ballsed up my interview at the end of the day as I was so tired my eyes were beginning to roll (I stayed over in a Premier Inn and had a terrible night's sleep), and now I'm beating myself up over it.

I really thought I might have had this one in the bag. Scuppered at the last moment! Dang.

Man that sucks:(! Keep going though, NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!

/motivational

It sucks but all you can really do is keep trying :(

Top 5 so you only just missed it. Next time will be better, just gotta keep going with it all. The thing is, when you do get a job and life starts moving on you'll look back and remember how gloomy things are and that will make everything look brighter.

Seeing as you got to the final 5, maybe you could contact them and ask for the reasons why you didn't make it.

Might help you with wherever you try for next.

Just gave them a call, they said I need to ask for feedback in writing (via e-mail) so I'm going to do that now.

Knowing I was so close is just making it that little harder to accept.

I've got all this to come on Wednesday afternoon, bricking it, same as you its a new chapter etc etc

Dont give up, i've been applying for jobs constantly only to be ignored look at it as being a temporary step back

Yep, you have to feel good that you got as far as you did, that means you are better than a lot of candidates for the job.

Ask for some feedback if you can, it might help you and also it looks good to them (should one of the accepted ones not actually take the job in the end).

Use it to motivate you into applying for more posts! DO IT! NOW!

But seriously, it's unfortunate, as mentioned above; it'll be great to find out why they decided against. Because; you won't do that again!

Get better, improve, then get that job you're looking for. Good luck

Move on and keep applying while everything is still fresh in your mind.

I lost out on a job a couple of years ago, it went to my flat mate (we were working for the same company at the time and desperate to leave). I got a job 6 months later and it was a far better job and higher pay. My flat mate was bored out of his mind by this time.

I actually found out later that I didn't get the original job because they thought I was too senior and would leave after a short time.

I've moved on from there now, but I still keep that experience in mind. There's always something better around the corner.

That would help if I believed in destiny or fate. :p

I've e-mailed the company and received a response: I'll be contacted by a recruiter in the next 28 day to personally discuss the matter.

Disappointed really doesn't quite sum up how I'm feeling at the moment. Thank you for the kind words.
