Focus Gearstick problem

Thanks for the response.

What happened is after a lot of hastle, I thought i had it sorted, went to change gear and the little black bit that I believe is meant to go between the two spring bits snapped and jammed.

I've since released this, put it back together and thankfully the warning light has gone off, gears etc are fine just has even less of a spring than before! (well none!)

So now I need to get a new black cover bit as the plastic has broke. Anyone happen to know the code? I'm sure the spring was the right way, certainly the same as the picture in the previous posts,

Ring up your local Ford dealer and explain the part you need... they are bound to have it in or they will refer you to another dealership that will have one.

If all fails, head over & register (if you already havent) onto the FFOC forum and ask the part's specialist on there - he will definately be able to help you out. As it is only a little piece of plastic it shouldn't be more than a tenner at the most, small Ford part's like this including the spring that you got are reasonably priced compared to the more expensive parts that Ford sell.

If the warning light has gone off then it may of been nothing, but be prepared as it may randomly come back again if there really is another problem - I doubt that the gear spring change has caused the light to come on as the engine light is only triggered if their has been a problem detected with something on the engine etc. If it comes back on again then get your garage to connect it to a fault code reader.

I think it was probably pressed in a bag way or something. it's been driven today and fine. I really cannot work out what I am going wrong tho.

Should the two single metal bits on the spring be facing forward or backwards?

the two single metal bits should be facing backwards, with the hooked end facing towards you.
