Focus or Golf?

I'm almost certain the 2.0 I wasted the dealers time with had Sport suspension. It was a 52 plate. I was under the impression that with the exception of power, it was otherwise identical to a 150bhp 1.8T.
I've driven the MK4 1.8T and 150 Diesel GTi, both wallowed mid corner which didn't inspire much confidence. Thinking back, both rolled far too much to be anything other than cruisers.

I chose a Golf because I prefer their looks and the interior is a much nicer place to be than a Focus'.

Beware though, my Golf is the 1.6S 8v model and so far i've had to replace the gearbox, sunroof motor and I'm in the process of fitting the new window regulator clips to replace the old plastic ones for new metal ones due to mine snapping and dropping the window in to the door frame!

They're lovely cars if you just want something nice to sit in and cruise around, but if you're after a sporty hatch, neither are to be fair.

vw will replace the window clips foc on cars upto 6 years old now iirc.

golf all the way though for me. I'm biased though as I'm on my 3rd met black golf in a row over 10 years

It'll take more than stiffer springs to stop the Golf not being fantastic at handling.
Which I will agree with as i wasn't arguing with that fact, a rear anti rollbar
for about £150 makes a BIG difference however which hardly breaks the bank. And no golf has these as standard

But then its modded and that is a slippery path.

True but its harldy a *major* mod. And I'm sure the insurance companies wouldn't look at it in the same light as some other mods.

Not just that, once you turn a car from non standard it becomes very subjective people will have opinions of what a standard car was like, however once modded the mods may divide opinion.

Also most people will not have driven the car with mods on so a lot will be put on one persons opinion, also the same mod but by different manufactures may achieve different results.

The argument for modding also falls on its face when, if you say, I will add part xy or z then it will be better than the competition, what if the competition had the same part replaced would it then be better again?

So modding can improve a car but IMO destroys its comparability. :)
