Are Focus ST's likely to follow this trend? Would love to think in a years time i could pick up a focus ST for about 9-9.5k but is this realistic? or will they seemingly hold super high prices like Focus RS's ? Is there any particiular reason Focus RS's still cost as much as they do years on ?

Only a limited number of them were produced, infact out of the 4500 Focus RS's produced only 2147 were sold in the UK. Which is why they command such a premium even now.

The ST on the other hand isnt a limited edition so i would expect them to depreciate over time.

Limited run, completely different to a standard Focus, quite simply a brilliant drivers car, much more raw than a standard one, and the RS heritage.

They will always command a premium over a normal one of similar age.

I highly doubt the ST will do half as well as the RS at holding value long term.

i mean for gods sake they put the ST engine in the S-Max !

the engine is nothing special. Granted they've upped the handling a bit, but no way is the new ST anything like the old RS, if anything, its more like the ST170. Bit sporty, but not worthy enough of the RS badge.

I can assure you, its one hell of an engine, sound awesome, bags of torque, still prretty bloody quick. It should be good as its essentially the same engine as its the the Volvo T5 lump pretty much.

But yeah its not likely to hold its value aswell as the RS, theres far too many on the road, and its not as track focussed as the RS.

I think the mk2 based st is overall a better car than the rs, and the st will be a better second hand buy even considering its higher depreciation. The rumours about a new rs (300bhp with 4wd) sound tasty though.

Same with the MKIV R32's. Still going for over £12000. Might as well get an S3 for that kind of money.

Unfortunately those rumours have been about since the MK1 focus ;). The MKII test mules were spotted on a few occasions but nothing ever came of them. So I'd be surprised if the MKIII had a 4wd RS.

Focus RS in white is just pure sex imo. One of the best looking cars on the road...

Shame they nearly all came in that rubbish blue :(

they put it in an MPV though ..

and its in the volvo T5

hardly the stuff of legends like the cosworth engines were is it ?

im not saying the RS engine was either, but at least it was bespoke for the car, not pulled out of the Volvo / Ford parts bin.

The focus RS has a 16v zetec engine with stonger internals and a turbo

I do believe though, that the Focus ST is forecasted to hold its value better than the Golf GTi, which is a first...

The RS is simply awesome, I would love one at some point, but most of them aren't standard unfortunaetley, and those that are tend to be over £14k, which is a lot for a 5 year old Focus.

The new Focus ST can hit 300bhp and 400nm of torque with a simple ECU upgrade to increase turbo pressure
I would say thats a pritty solid engine for a car of this size
