Focus RS's / Focus ST's

not really when you compare it to cars in the same class... will out handle the Astra VXR
Astra VXR - 1840kg
Focus ST - 1850kg

The new Focus ST can hit 300bhp and 400nm of torque with a simple ECU upgrade to increase turbo pressure
I would say thats a pritty solid engine for a car of this size

220 to 300bhp with a remap? Don't be silly. 250-270 is more realistic, depending on who's figures you believe. More power can be got fairly easily and cheaply, but 300bhp from a remap alone just isn't true. The standard turbo is only rated to 250bhp - it's a KKK K04.

1850kg for a Focus? It's 1317kg iirc.

as sloth said I drive a t5 the turbo used on the st is patheticly small and is really at the edge of its preformance plateau in the standard trim. People have had some limited success with remaps but the turbo being small it produces huge amounts of heat requiring uprated intercooler and changed pipework. Ford never meant the car to be tuned at all and encrypted some of the files on the ecu to a greater level than Volvo ever bothered to do as they produced the car to a stricter budget and the headroom in the components just isnt there.

Think of it like you cpu being overclocked by 25 - 30% with the standard power supply and the standard heatsink. Instead of the black screen and sparklies you get black smoke and melted cylinders:D

Yuk! Looks like my mates 1.6. F.Quick I'd wager though.

Anything will outhandle an Asstra VXR ;)
You'd have to catch up with it first.

It wont actually, the VXR is faster round the track.
My thoughts too. It's only the limits of handling that would set it apart surely? Huge grip and performance in both, the road would never decide it and if the Astra lacks finesse on the track it more than makes up for it with grip and grunt making it considerably faster.

About the Focus though; I've always wondered what the ST would do for the RS. My only RS experience was a Sapphire which was a blast but as I understood it the Focus RS to be a bit too much on the road and the ST was the better overall machine. Quite what this whole 'RS' residual thing is I don't know. Prices are ridiculous. It's OK saying your car is worth X but if nobody buys it then it's worth nothing. Do RS's actually sell at these high prices or are they slow to shift baring in mind stiff competition from better performing and lower priced cars?

Well most if not all track tests have proven that the VXR is quicker round the track, so it should be it has a lighter engine uptop and a tad more power.

Still prefer my ST tho.

The new facelifted focus doesn't look too different on the outside, just a revised front end, but the interior quality should be a bit better - the included 230v outlet looks particuarly appealing. Mechanically they should be the same however - but with the addition of a dsg style dual clutch and possibly sci engines.

If I was buying a focus now I'd make sure to take the added depreciation of a new model into consideration, but otherwise wouldn't be too fussed about waiting for the update.

The ST is also likely to be phased out with the current model so shouldn't be affected like the rest of the range.

There has always been the option for a 230v power outlet in the Focus range since the facelift of the original model
Never knew that. After seeing that Corsa advert with the chick on the bike and the novel bike stand thingy, I'd rather car manufacturers dropped daft lifestyle features and just upped the quality of the stereo since it's something we all use daily.

I believe that the ST will be subject to the facelift too, just like the Fiesta/Mondeo ST were... this SHOULD affect the price of the current used 'pre-facelift' examples, given that most of them are so close to the retail price anyway!

Ford refused to comment on the face-lift Fiesta ST until it was actually released; presumably to not affect sales of the pre-fl version. I'm glad I waited...
