Sam, get this

The ST is a reasonably quick 'warm' hatch, im bore dof mine, there is no real sensation of speed, but as mines a company car, its perfect for me, it'll happily sit up and down the motorway all day, and then I can open up the taps at the weekend and have some fun.
I dont think you will like it Sam, ultimately its a heavy lethargic lump of a car compared to stuff like the reno R26 or DC5 et al, its actuary not that far off the 330 coupe in terms of the driving experience it offers.Imo its a bit nose heavy and runs out of puff a tad too quick.
That said, they are tweakable, pretty well specced, and pretty robust, mines got 76k on the clock and its been driven medium to hard for much of its life, and it hasnt missed a beat.
I disagree with it running out of puff it will get to a ton quicker than both of those you have mentioned. Its not the best B road car but it all comes down to personal preference. There are two categories here raw hot hatch and civilised hot hatch the ST being the later. I cannot see changing from a VX to DC5 as being any different bar FWD it will still offer the same driving experience albeit with 4 seats and a boot.
I had a play with a ST the other week, from a roll it's no quicker or slower than the ST220 :/It runs out of puff as the turbo is too small, it's all over by 5000rpm and then you have to change gear, it certainly doesn't rev very well.
A DC5 will also beat it to 100mph
Not a fan of the Type-R I take it![]()
JDM EK9, DC2, DC5, EP3, FD2 yes.
UK FN2, no.
Let’s be honest that particular "type R" should not be allowed to wear the badge its GHASTLEY

amen
I'm considering what to buy next (only dreaming at this point as I'm happy enough with my motor and will be keeping it for a fair bit longer) but I'm currently thinking I want a hotter, hot hatch and the current Type-R and ST are currently joint 1st choice
How do I know this? Well merlins DC5 spanked all over my ST3 back in 2006.
Merlins DC5 was a little special though... or was this pre-mods?
Sam, give the garages a call and explain that your interested in the car and would like to come and have a drive, arrange a time and go along. Emailing or just turning up never seems to have a decent reception from garages as they seem to think your just a test pilot.... taking the time to chat with them about the cars and making them realize your looking to buy not just kick the tires is the only way.

I also remember Merlin saying that at the traffic light GP in standard trim it was about the same pace as a Clio. Obviously modified is a different story, but than can be said for loads of cars
K -Pro and uber expensive exhaust (can't remember if he had the manifold as well) iirc, and did he ever get the Toda cams fitted?
