Was driving home the other night and it was a bit foggy, could still see normal car lights at a good mile to two up the road even if good visual range was pretty low. However, and maybe it's just me but what's with all the drivers reacting with:

'oh look, it's a light fog I better put my fog lights on'

followed immediately by:

'but hell, I can see well enough to still do 80mph on the dual carrigeway'

Seriously, if you can see well enough to feel comfortable doing over 70mph do you really need your fog lights on to blind everybody else with?

I'm not getting worked up over it, was just asking. It was about 80% of drivers too, utterly daft in my opinion.

Makes them think they look cool like Knight Rider.

it doesnt though. the knight rider light was genuinely cool. it was red and went from left to right making a swishing sound

fog lights just make you look like a berk who cannot decipher what it says on his dashboard because youll have a little symbol illuminated saying your fog lights are on. using your own eyes you should be able to tell its not foggy and if you had more than two brain cells to rub together youd realise your fog lights shouldnt be on

Always used to be a £30 fine.

There are two kinds of fog light users;

The ****s that insist on having them on all the time, because they think they look cool,
and the ****s that will turn them on at the first sign of light fog.

I think I can count the situations where I've genuinely needed front fog lights on one hand.

There's a different kind of fog light user too. Possibly worse than the rest. The ****s that stick them on when there's a tiny bit of rain in the air, making it constantly appear like they are braking.

There isn't even any point in having fog lights on at 70 or above. Fog light is slower than normal light, so you overtake it before it hits the road anyway.

I find it funny when people have a front fog bulb gone - shows how much they use them! I've only needed them once since driving (8 years odd).

Rear fog lights was the main thing, causing big red light blooms for no reason.

Would like to see your science behind that comment...

The fog lights burn the fog away, thereby creating less wind resistance through clear air.
As a result, this allows you to drive at higher speeds whilst using less fuel.

If this is the result of normal fog lights, just imagine what HID fogs can do!!

As far as i remember as well, under heavy fog you should only use your fog lights and not your normal lights, as the light from them just bounces off the fog into your face making visibility worse.

Surely you mean main beam?! And the fog's are there to light up the edges of the road in front of you.
