Fog light is slower than normal light, so you overtake it before it hits the road anyway.
Was driving home the other night and it was a bit foggy, could still see normal car lights at a good mile to two up the road even if good visual range was pretty low. However, and maybe it's just me but what's with all the drivers reacting with:
'oh look, it's a light fog I better put my fog lights on'
followed immediately by:
'but hell, I can see well enough to still do 80mph on the dual carrigeway'
Seriously, if you can see well enough to feel comfortable doing over 70mph do you really need your fog lights on to blind everybody else with?
Most foglights don't help you see any better (unless your dipped beams are complete crap to begin with, true on some cars I guess...) but help you be seen better to oncoming traffic.
People just turn it on because it's a bit foggy and it's an automatic reaction for them.
The fogs don't even dazzle anyone so why get worked up over it.
It was rear fog lights I was referrring to as already mentioned and I'm not worked up over it, again as already mentioned.
It gets on my nerves too, especially when you see the ones who only have their side lights on.
Liam

The drivers with fog lights on that only have their sidelights on? How does that work then?
I never have mine on, front or back, unless its actually foggy.
Even if its a wee bit of fog, ill put them on...! I know my eye sight is fairly good, but you have no idea what other road users can or cant see. Anything i can do to increase the likelyness of them seeing my car, ill do![]()

Are you saying that fog light travels at 70mph or lessThere isn't even any point in having fog lights on at 70 or above. Fog light is slower than normal light, so you overtake it before it hits the road anyway.

They have their sidelights on so their fog lights will come on... This is becoming common practice around my area during the day
