Folder keeps reverting to "read only"

A program I use is giving me error messages when trying to save files. The only thing I can think of being the cause is the folder its trying to save to seems to be "read only".

But when I right-click and change the properties, if I go back and check, it's set back to read-only.

I'm the only user, on this PC so I should have admin privelages, so I don't understand why it always instantly reverts to read-only. :confused:

Any ideas?

Didn't work. Folder is still read-only, and the program still gives an error when attempting to save.

Have you checked the NTFS permissions?

Program probably needs admin rights - 'run as admin'

right click on the folder, select properties, then click security tab. see 'allow' list.

There is no security tab. It's winXP.

XP folder Security tab is usually hidden by default or if not NTFS. Look under Tools > Folder Options > View (Tab) and at the very bottom of the Advanced Settings list - untick the "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)". The Security Tab should then appear.

Under Tools > Folder Options > View, I don't see an option for the tab. :confused:

You must be using XP Home Edition then? Security is available in XP Professional.
