Generally however, cherry picking work units is frowned upon, because well mainly because we are doing this for the science not the points. I'd be mad to invest the money I have into the project for the points, what does that give me? I do it because of the people in my life I have lost to the sorts of diseases that Folding and the other science projects are researching. Also because most of the project send out the same work unit to multiple participants so that they can correlate the results and check for errors, if you dump a unit you delay its verification.

So although there is almost 50% or more difference between one WU and another, I'd never dump a WU just because its a bit low.

I'm not bothered about the points, I'm doing it for the same reasons you are - I think I misunderstood, I assumed that by using the beta tag it would make my GPU work harder to finish the units faster, hence increased my PPD?

Or have I totally potatoed on that theory :P

It will when it gets a beta WU, however as its beta there is no guarantee that it will get a beta WU ever time and when it doesn't it will get a regular WU or a slow beta WU, its luck of the draw so to speak :)

Ah I see, so hypothetically, what should give the most oomph out of my cpu and gpu? I wanna get folding properly :O might get some new hardware am I better off with a higher clock or more cores?

Another reason not to dump is that you only get bonus points if you've completed at least 80% of your WUs. So if you dump too many, you may fall below that and end up with no bonus points at all.

Another point about this GPU folding bit, should it be folding at about 33% activity? Is there anyway to make it properly get stuck in? Apart from the BETA tags, I'm not interested points as much as I am crunching stuff fast

I downgraded my drivers as it was maxing out at about 30%, now runs 90-100% :)

Yay! :D
