Folding@home News 27th August - 3rd September

Ran the oc scanner with artifact selected for 2.5hrs and zero artifacts. Back folding now, seems to be running ok, showing 205k ppd bearing in mind the wu has been paused for 2.5hrs that's not bad I think.

how often are you guys getting core 21's on your NVidia gpus? ive been searching as to why my 970 never gets them, think its had 2 in over a week now. I found some were that you need enough system ram free for core 21's .
whats the difference between available ram and free ram? as out of 8gb its saying I only have under 500 mb free! , but there is over 5000 available

I've been watching them closely too andy, after reading what you and others have said about the cores (i'm confused over these cores tbh !!) and I have not seen one on my 980ti or 780ti - currently on core 79

getting both confused and annoyed now, currently on pc2 and the 280x wouldn't work with core 21. had to uninstall and reinstall to get a core 17 yet its been doing nearly all core 21 since its been running

I only have one monitor so ive just set up remote log in to make sure I can keep a close eye on the 280 when I stick it away some were

Is that Windows Remote Desktop you are using ?
I thought that caused problems when used to connect to a PC that was doing GPU Folding. Unless they have fixed it ?

TeamViewer (free version) doesn't cause the problem [other software also available].

then I have a problem for sure with my gpu. look what what yours is getting and my 970 only gets 200k with core 18

I am going to have to experiment.

1 . don't fold at all on the cpu, currently folding with 2 cores / 4.
2. rip this amd card out and see if just the NVidia alone does better

I know yours is a 980ti but myn should be at least 300k ppd

wait till you get a 21 rob, that 980ti will get 500k ppd...

that's when ill really start to worry lol.

Mine was near Rob's PPD before and yes core 21 does enable at least 550k on a stock 980 Ti, now seeing 600-650k.

The irony, right now is that I have 21 (620k solid) and 17 (giving between 310k and 470k).

Ended up turning off the CPU slot, all the folding now goes through the GPUs and finally seeing PPD above 100k regularly for (2x) 4 WU's to date.

I paused the cpu slot at the end of a WU for my 970 and the next work unit is a core 18 again but this time its 10k ppd up. ill un pause it now and see of it drops down again

Check your CPU usage while folding, the only time I see low GPU PPD on a Nvidia card is when the CPU is pegged, which can happen if you have a low end CPU or not enough cores/memory

biffa I had read about not enough memory on the folding forum , my cpu is a 4690k @ 4.0mhz. I have my cpu paused now so will let it get a couple of work units to see if the ppd goes up tomorrow
