Folding@Home Weekly Team News - 5th October 2006

To be honest it doesn't take much for the client to screw up. Pretty much any unexpected crash or blue screen could cause F@H to restart a WU.

I lost 2 600 pointers that were in the 90% region in one day because of a random crash.

On the whole the client isn't affected but as I say, it's pot luck in my experience.

Okay well theres no way it would have finished, last time I checked it, bout 6pm, it was 82% and bout 8 hours left!

Its well frustrating! All I want is ONE WU!

Im just gonna leave it and let it get on with it now! No harm in letting FAH run while im on the net anyway.

Ta for the help guys this section seems to be really friendly lol

@ Xplo - we try, friendlyness is next to foldyness.

@Rich-and-all-his-millions, Thanks for the news as ever the team is really flying, can't believe we're up another 35k on last week  double team stomp and many massive progress on next set of teams too :D

Dispite a bit of a slacker week for me (50% of the farm has only been on 12/7) my output still over 10k so very happy about that, looks like the ram upgrade is being processed soon, so that all 8 P4 3.0 HT back on two threads again soon. Other news on the horizon - geting broadband at home soon (if I can find the time to sort it out) so the steath weekend upload will go and so will the 8 client guggle to minimise crunching down time (due to dial up)

great week team - so many member now over 1k a day and loads more over 1k a week (that was me 5 months ago) welcome new members any questions just ask. we'll either know the answer or know a man that does!

Edit: going to have a nother go at renaming that stray borg at the weekend, wish me luck. ;)

Edit2: nice way to anounce your membership chart-topper, class m8, real class

Excellent week for the team and not a bad week for me -considering I was 10 cores light all week.

All rigs up and running now at 100%.

I was going to set up the GPU client on the C2D rig today but I'm a bit reluctant as it's doing this at the moment

The second X1900XT arrived today so I will put that into one of the lower output rigs this weekend and set it up on that. I will set it up on the C2D rig eventually but I'm reluctant to take the points hit just now.

Thanks as always to Rich for the news and a huge foldy type welcome to the new guys.

Special mention to Growse for phenomenal output - even with everything maxed out, I'll have a job matching him.

Stan :)

Edit: Updated Bob's benchmarks after WU finished - 1410.30 average ppd for 1 core is phenomenal output (pity the other core is getting silly little 44 pointers).

Got the slow 4000+ SD rigged up with the new X1900XT and running the GPU client on it now - not performing as well as I would have hoped but still probably higher output than the CPU client on that machine.

Updated the ppd for Sideshowbob in my previous post as it actually went over 1400 by the time the WU completed

I have a case, GFX card and HDD so it's not a silly price for a high end system.

This'll make it a nice round 10 desktops (+2 laptops) - hopefully I can stop it at that :o

Stan :)

As my Mam would say "More money than sense" :o

Could be close on the overtake by Christmas front but with some decent WUs, I should get you.

As predicted; now that I'm home and all rigs are up and running again, I've got a rash of low output WUs again  P772s this time - 150 ppd for most rigs and even the C2D is only giving me about 260 for them.

May as well make this a parp :D

Those folders listed below are hereby informed that they will (with the possible exception of Steevo38) be overtaken by the Bigstan train before Christmas unless they pull out their collective fingers and increase production :p

I'll try to fend you off till we reach Shady, though with your output still recovering from the downtime it's not going to be easy :o
