So what you're saying is that beta testers get the secret decoder ring via carrier pidgeon that they then use to decode Vijay Pande's brainwaves that then gives them an uber-secret command-line flag that asks for beta WUs? I get it now. ;)
who's been leaking the secret of the uber-secret command-line flag? :p

yes it's just a flag - no magic or server witchcraft I'm afraid, thus you have total control over which of your machines get beta WUs and which don't - you could even decide which core of your X2 gets beta and which doesn't :D

as Mattus said we won't be giving it away - it's easy enough to register for the beta team, it's not a closed secret club, they just want people who are capable of helping report problems if/when they arise

so if you want beta work go register for the forums and post in that thread with a little bit about how you can help

It enables the newest stable WUs; WUs that were in beta a short time ago.

Thats what i thought it was.

For Beta just wondered how on earth it decides who is and isn't on Beta.

Thanks for confirming that. I don't see the point in anyone using the beta flag if they ain't joined up as it's the whole point of being a beta tester (for any software) although i do respect it is meant to be kept private even tho it's been leaked a few times lol

On a different note looks like we have a good folding day yesterday

ahh yes indeed - hope we can keep that up for the rest of the week, putting lots of red in the news makes mrs99million sad :( :p

my monster 1112-pointer will be finishing tomorrow morning too - hope that'll chuck me back up in the top 20 again or I'll have to do something drastic and quite costly  :D

These are the CPUs you're looking for.
"These are the CPUs I'm looking for," said Rich.
/waves again
You want to buy these new computers.
"I want to buy these new computers," said Rich as his plastic credit card quivers between his ruddy hands.

:p

lol - i was on the verge of it a little while ago Master O'Billy-Wan :p
Trouble is I just spent £50 on a 9800Pro which kinda sealed the decision to stick with Skt-A a while longer

of course I could always go for a Skt939 board with AGP, or even one of the Asrock's which sport both :o :p

noooooo - the power of the credit side is stroooong!!!

You could alwasy build a cheap-o dual Xeon machine. The popular overclocking dual PGA604 boards are all AGP all the time. You could disguise it as a fishtank or a noisy flower vase or something. Mrs99million wouldn't suspect a thing.

/waves hand for third time

no probs mister buzz - will add you now :)

lol Billy - i don't need any encouragement :p
If i did go for a new machine that's not a problem - though I definately would have to lose at least one older cruncher for the sake of the leccy bills :o

You could always send it North (I don't pay the leccy - company flat :D ).

On a slightly sadder note, my 4000+ SD is in "not on" status at the moment due to catastrophic failure of the gfx card. I have ordered a cheapo today to get it back up and running as I'm off back to Egypt on Thursday for a month or so (I don't have time for RMAs). I ordered it at about 16.00 but haven't had a "Your order has been shipped" e-mail yet so it looks like I won't get it until Wednesday :(

Oh noes! Will it boot without a graphics card? Whilst you're in the sandbox there'll be nobody around to look at pretty pictures anyways. Perhaps there's an option in the BIOS that says something to the effect of "Halt on: [No Errors]" that'll let it boot even if it senses stuff is missing.

EDIT: It looks as if I've gone and gotten 1000 posts. Yay for Wise Guy status! :D

I'll just wait for the new card, I think since the machine is currently in bits due to me having decided that the (potentially) cheapest way to lower the temps on this rig was to remove the ihs :D

I was hoping the card would arrive tomorrow as that would have given me time to order a new chip (FX57 ;) ) if I've rendered it inoperable.

Stan :)

PS: Bragging about one's postcount isn't always a good idea (there may be a slasher about :p ).

I don't normally quote my own posts but........

I've only had three 364 pointers this week and 2 of them have been on my solitary P4 which only gives a ppd of 160 from them instead of the 500 or so I get from the A64s.

After I'd finished with the AMDs I decided to have a look at the P4 to see if there was anything I could do to speed it up a bit (it's an old 2.4GHz Northwood).

Imagine my horror when I discovered it was running at stock  (excuse my language). It was also jammed full of crap - old programs/software which were never used.

I spent most of yesterday afternoon clearing all the crap off it and then set about overclocking it properly.
I managed to get it to 3.0GHz on reasonable volts (refuses to go any higher - even with lots of volts) with load temp of 39c. I put in a couple of sticks of Corsair XMS PC3200 RAM I had lying around and got them running at 2-2-2-5

It now does the 364 pointer it had at 20.5 mins per frame instead of the 30.5 mins it was doing before - giving a PPD of around 250 instead of the old 160
