Foo Fighters drummer dead at 50

A guy has died and left a wife and 3 kids behind - some of the comments in this thread are disgusting....

No one has a clue what caused his death but flippant comments about drugs, columbia, coke etc are bang out of order....
What's disgusting? Speculating that the he may have died from drugs? Even the police are saying it.

Of course no one knows yet, but this is a discussion forum.

There is a history, and drugs were found in his system

"A toxicology report showed traces of 10 substances in his body, including anti-depressants."

This is what I'll remeber Taylor for, the look of pain, while having the time of his life.

Gutted to hear this. Always loved the Foo's, unfortunately i've never had the chance to see them live, but Taylor Hawkins was unique, so much energy, so much talent.

As sad as it is, although its still early, sounds like it may indeed have been related to drugs from this mornings reports. In this case sounds like the years of all the high pressure, stress and abuse, this time his body just had enough. As sad as it is, it is for sure an occupational hazard, I guess its still just a socially accepted norm in that world.:(

He'll definitely be missed, Foo Fighters will never be the same without him thats for sure.

I don't think anyone has said anything "disgusting", but agree no one actually knows the cause.

Gutted. RIP Taylor.

On Friday night my band happened to play to songs he’d drummed on: Everlong and You Oughta Know. Both rock.

Don’t assume the worst yet. Plenty of people die of prescription drug mismanagement.

I wonder if Dave and the rest will have the emotional capacity to keep going, even if they could find a replacement drummer (or vocalist if Dave goes on the drums). I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the end for the band.

I’ve seen them six or seven times, I had tickets to see them in Rome but Covid hit that year. I also have tickets for London this year. Truly epic band live.

I can’t imagine there are many 50 year old touring drummers that aren’t on some sort of painkiller, it’s rough on your body. It’d be terribly sad for all concerned though if he had relapsed, as it was obvious how loved he was by those around him and no one ever had a bad word to say about him. Just a tragedy either way.

That's quite a reach, if you're that easily offended then how on earth do you deal with any form of social interaction online?

I also suggested it could have been a heart attack. There was nothing flippant about my post. I was speculating, but not disrespectfully.

Benzos are brutal. Heaven help anyone who's hooked on those things.

Well DG has 'done it before' I guess in relation to forming a band after Kurt Cobain died, but I suppose he's at a different stage in his life now.

I thought about this earlier and honestly not sure, part of me thinks DG is the kind of guy that would decide right I'm gonna go and finish some of this tour, and I'm playing drums to honour Taylor (honestly can't see them trying to replace TH with a newcomer). Mix up the set list a bit to make it work and have some guest vocalists for some of it.

Have seen them a couple of times, with Glastonbury 2017 ranking as probably one of my top3 ever gigs, absolutely top notch.

Foo Fighters have so many friends I'm sure drummers from bands will do a few dates each in tribute. I'll be very surprised if they don't fulfil all the dates. Yeah its going to be tough to do without him but its the perfect way to honour their friend.

If she was 10 years older she could do a few of the dates

edit: when I said dates I meant fulfil all the gigs at some point. I can't imagine they'll be playing any gigs for a while.

Not a massive fan but did see them live in Christchurch 5-6 years ago. The lead singer has an excellent voice and from memory, Hawkins also did a song and was a superb singer himself.

also not a massive fan but heard 'love dies young' on Planet Rock recently and was hoping for more...

this seems like a good video to post that came up onmy recommended...rock n roll

other non Queen vids of him singing...I dunno what to say :(

Yes benzo are brutal, going through withdrawal myself. Other than the opiates I'd have the same drugs in my system!!!
