Who the hell is it working there? toddlers? if anyone ever told me when I could and couldn't eat I would flip them the bird and leave... do they have to put up their hand and wait when they want to go potty ?

I would have thought so, most conveyor belt type assembly systems you need to do this.

they should be encouraging staff to eat fruit for christs sake. I worked in a place where oranges were banned, cant remember why but may be because someone didnt like or was alergic to citrus or something.

It really doesn't sound like they have done it for contamination reasons though.
