I'm moving tomorrow and as such wont have net for a week or so. I expect i'll want to have a bash on CS bots, but i really dont trust Steam's offline mode (last time i checked it wanted you to login to play offline ). How do i set it up to ensure that it'll let me in without an internet connection? :)

Either disconnect your internet connection before you start Steam, or block Steam from getting access to the internet with your firewall to get it to go into offline mode. If your games are all 100% downloaded in Steam, then when it does start in offline mode, it should be fine, but is always safe to check.

Just be sure not to 'log out' of steam. Just right click steam icon and exit then start up again. If no internet is detected offline should come on. That said I have had problems with Steam offline before.

It's a very annoying problem to be honest. At our LAN events, we ALWAYS have at least 5/6 people who have problems with steam offline mode - even if it was working at the start of the event.

We ended up resorting to 'dubious' work-arounds. Any port in a storm and all that.

Thanks guys. I think before i pack up my PC i'll give it a go without my ethernet cable plugged in. Just to make sure. God i hate Steam!

That's the thing, i never logout of Steam; just right click and exit. Yet it still logs me in when i start it up. Or is that because i took it off autostart? Hmn.. should i put it back on autostart do you think?

You mean it logs you in automatically, or you have to type in your password? It's always got to log you in when you use it.

It logs me in. I seem to remember taking it off autostarting when i boot-up (i hate programs doing that). I suddenly thought having that on might cause some problems.
