Football and the Coronavirus

You do not know what will happen because this situation has never happened before. So you can hope the season ends and try sly digs about no sleep. For the record I slept very well last night thanks. But the fact is no one knows when this crisis will be over, and no one knows what will happen to the current football season.

And again the FA cup is just as important as the league.

lol it was a joke because what you're saying makes zero sense and I'm sure it will dawn on you soon. No, I don't know what will happen other than the decision on whether we restart by finishing this season or by starting a new season will not be determined by the government because it has nothing to do with the government and what the League decides has no bearing on the government.

And of course the FA Cup is not as important. You only have to look at team selections for the FA Cup to see that practically every side, even sides in lower divisions, don't treat it as an equal to the League. Completing the FA Cup is not going to make a meaningful difference to (m)any side still in it or in it next season, from a financial pov. Failure to complete the current League or next seasons League will leave many clubs facing bankruptcy unless they're bailed out. You're being incredibly naive if you believe that FA Cup games will be played if we reach the point that playing them prevents League games being played.
 
Lol it was a joke you said twice, we have entered groundhog day. The Fa cup is important, largely because of history, yes some clubs field weakened teams, but you only have to look at the clubs that have won it over the last 20 years to see that clubs do take it seriously. Take out Wigan (wow forgot about that) and Portsmouth and a top team wins every year.

The FA gets 30million from the government every year, so I'm pretty sure the sports minister will be part of the conversation over what to do.
 
I'm waiting for the various league's to declare they are ending the season now, and the government step in and say "Hoy, no you can't do that we didn't say you could" :p
 
Top sides win it because they have bigger and better squads so when they do make massive changes, like most other sides, they're still fielding strong sides. To try and suggest sides take it as seriously as the League is as silly as saying the government will decide whether we complete this season or start next season, when the government allows football to resume @rebel rebel

Anyway, there's no point going round and round. Four people have tried explaining the difference between what the government can and will decide on and what the League will decide without any joy, there's no reason to believe that going on any further will change that.
 
I'll put a notice in their local paper next week. I'll also tell the dozens of clubs that go bust because you've decided the FA Cup was as important as completing their League season, I'm sure they'll understand.
 
The initial aim from Uefa remains to complete the campaigns by June 30 with FA chief executive Mark Bullingham revealing that there is unanimity
that the season should be finished, rather than be declared void as some have argued. He said completing the season remained the “starting point of every scenario being mapped out”
even if it means going beyond the end of June.

The Football Association has declared the “priority if possible is to get the domestic league and cup season finished” in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic with all European countries now prepared to run their competitions deep into the summer.

You will note, nobody at UEFA is talking about the domestic cups. Indeed, there has even been talk of the Champions League being scrapped. Nor is there any contrivance to be concerned about national government interference into what is essentially a footballing matter!!!

UEFA's priority is getting the national leagues finished with anything else a bonus, including starting next season on time.

You're getting your info from a misleading, nonsense article from the S*n? That would explain a lot. The original article, however much bs it is, states that the government are set to prevent football matches from happening (which they have done and guess what, the Leagues still haven't made a decision on the season yet), and that in turn would lead to the end of seasons. As I and other have been trying to explain to you, the government can only prevent football matches from happening, it's then the decisions of the leagues whether they cancel seasons or not.

Why on earth would the government even want to get involved in whether football resumes as completion of the current set of games or the start of the next set of games?
 
That's just one news article from many I could have chosen. There are others stating the Scottish teams are pleading with the government to hurry up and cancel the season. But that can't be right can it? 4 people on a computer forum were adamant the government won't and can't get involved.

Which all of the UEFA member FAs have agreed unanimously and under direction from UEFA that they won't, "in any scenario being mapped out" even if that means delaying the start of next season.

It ain't getting cancelled.

Please quote one article that states that the government will determine whether the 19/20 season resumes when we start playing football again or whether we start with a new season. You've quoted a misleading headline where the original article doesn't state what you believe. And you can now add a 5th person to the list that thinks you're talking nonsense.

It won't get cancelled because the SFA have agreed with all of the members of UEFA to complete their domestic league seasons as the no1 priority. Just forget about it.

This was all done and dusted yesterday afternoon at a UEFA meeting specifically about how to deal with this exact problem.

Because some people have their blinkers on and think the government won't get involved.

Lol a horseracing reference, you may have noticed the Grandnational has been cancelled and not simply moved to a new time.

It's far from certain that it won't get cancelled, the debate going on is that for some unknown reason, rebel believes the decision could be made by the government. They have no control over what format the League's follow, only whether we can play football or more specifically with crowds because iinm, as things stand professional football could in theory continue.

Who cancelled the Grand National? The government or the Jockey Club?

Well, nothing is certain is it? But the outcome of yesterday's meeting was that all UEFA member FA's agreed that completing their respective league fixtures is the first thing to do when matches start to get played again. There is no plan or contingency to cancel. Whilst there is plans to delay the start of next season in order to complete 19/20. Even if that means 19/20 is completed in 2021.

20/21 is in more danger of being cancelled than 19/20.
