It didn't go to his head at all, having two horrible injuries that left him sidelined for over a year turned him to drink and that finished him. No injuries = Johnson still at the club and playing.
Back then the player support and care was almost non-existent and it we kept him for nearly the full length of his contract once the club got sorted out to try and help him.
He has said that he has completely fallen out of love with football and will never be the same player so he just want's to concentrate on his daughter and moving on.
You kept him for the length of his contract because there was nobody to take him and he wasn't walking away from the millions he was set to receive from City.
And you can't say that it's the injuries that have sent him on the path he took. Lots of young players have big injuries and most don't go down the route Johnson took and most young players with the talent he had would have still gone on to make decent careers for themselves.
Tbh i havent seen the incident myself, all i know is that he got sent off then promptly banned for 3 games...think he raised his hand or made a gesture that gave him an extra 2 match ban if i remember reading somewhere correctly.
