Typical football players, So biased and prejudiced :o

"Rugby's for shirt-lifters"

No, far better to shove your middle finger up some blokes rear end, or put two fingers in someone's eyes, or grab hold of someone's testicles, or headbut someone etc, etc.

Personal Opinion.

Rugbys ok to play, dull sport to watch though.

Footballs great to play, and awesome to watch

Rugby....what a load of monkies waste.

Skill...what skill is there in rugby. If your big and strong then its just a park game for you.

My brother plays Rugby at high level and I still don't like it or could be bothered going to watch him in big games.

Its a game for those who want to chase men around the field and grab their butts etc...

Football however, best sport in the world.:)

Could ramble on but you get my drift.

Whats your point? Rugby IS for shirtlifters and toffs.

And football has worked VERY hard to rid the trouble surrounding the matches, and in this country at least has seen massive success.

Yet you still see two or three fights in every rugby match. Even at the top level!

And wrt rugby, a fairly large part of the game is down to physical size and strength. This is not skill, as anyone with enough time on their hands can trai hard to become big and strong. Just look at scrums and rucks - no real skill involved, just people pushing against each other as hard as they can.

Look at the passing in rugby as well, it has to be less skillful because it can only go in two directions - back to the left, and back to the right. When was the last time you saw Jonah Lomu throw a 50 yard crossfield ball? ;)

How bout the kicking as well? When there's a free kick, the guy gets a free chance to kick the ball over the bar, with no-one in the way. In soccer it's just a wee bit harder.

Getting my drift here chaps? :)

Lol, a free kick in Rugby is pretty hard. You have to take it a fair distance away from the posts which are elevated in the air. Not stuck low on the ground. Then when you get the height and power right you have to contend with the wind in mid-air. I would very much like to see a 'top' football player try and manage a Free Kick in Rugby. I have no doubt that Rugby players would probably be pretty decent at taking a free kick in football.

this is an entirely pointless debate.

the matter is completely objective depending on which side of the fence you stand.

Look at the England Rugby team: full of players called "Will"
And whats wrong with the name Will? Oi Oi Oi? Talkin to moi? :p

I have played both, and I much prefer football to rugby. Seems more skill involved to actually control, pass properly, defeat players rather than just grabbing the ball and running until some other bloke jumps on you, drags you down, and kneels on your head. Personal view there...I have played both and while I found rugby alright and being a big phat get (15 stone and 6'3) I wasn't being totally flattened like some of my mates, it just wasn't as fun as football. Being jumped on, dragged to the ground and trampled over and having me nadgers pinched by some kid from the grammar school down the road is not my idea of fun.

Football is far more gentlemanlike, indeed I wonder how rugby became the sport regarded as more of a toffs game, considering it involves wallowing in mud and organised fighting. Both games are alright, far better than golf, but football seems more skilled and is more fun and less pain to play :D. And if I'm to be called a puff who can't stand the pain for saying so, ask yourself which sport has the most nadger tweaking involved :p

P.S. Don't take me too seriously, k

:)

i havent read all of this thread (yet), but i have to post after reading Gilly wrote:

Rugby:Lots of men grabbing each others privates. Lots of men rolling around together and having group hugs. Thuggery. Lack of skill. Egg chasing.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? in a proper game of rugby its nearly impossible to get anywhere unless your whole team works together. you need speed, burst power, decent handling and a tactical minded brain to break a good defence line. i dont know how you can call rugby skill-less, its beyond me. did you watch any of the lions tour? any of the tri/five/six-nations?

no commitment? rofl, watch a rugby team train then watch a football team train - tell me who puts more effort, more commitment, and more passion into one training session. the level of intensity in rugby training is absolutely destructive to the body, ive spent hour sessions out in the cold rain just running figures of 8, followed by sprints, thrusts - just pure fitness with no sign of this 'egg'. then football training, ive played county, country training........10 minute warm up, 25 minutes fitness training, 30 minute game, 10 minute warm down. hm which was more intense, more difficult, more tiresome. definately not that pounces game (football.)

And most of you who havnt played it are to scared to

couldnt have put it better myself nitro :) people are too worried about getting muddy or getting troden on. lol imagine david beckham playing rugby :P

I bet all three of them have had their hands on another man's meat and two veg, I never have, have you?

OH NO lets all be homophobic. so what if someone touches you? its only by accident if it happens, jesus.

football is a great game, but some of the arguements on here are completely pathetic

Rugby is much easier to play. Hence lack of skill. Obviously it takes some skill, just nowhere near as much as football.

But your argument was weak :D Paz is just setting u straight.

You reckon? I whooped you last night and they've put nothing forward yet.

In your opinion. Only ppl that support you are the 'football' players. The Rest seem to be on the side of Rugby. Looks about 50/50 to me atm for supporters. Like i said before, it's all personal preference. Each has good sides and bad sides. Both require differnent types of skill, different levels of playing. They are completely different games, maybe they started off similar but now they are unique.
