My love of Football Manager has slowly waned over the years. It is sad, as I remember dedicating, on a regular basis, continuous 8-14 hour stints playing that game.

Ah. You just haven't been converted yet. 
I don't think you can set it like that. When you start the game at some point it prompts you to set them. So it asks you at some times, just before the season I suppose.

I'm not really a Football Manager fan - as in I have never played it but a certain part of me thinks that I should give it a go something tells me that I'd really enjoy it. It's just that I don't want to end up waisting my entire life playing it...... ho hum...... I might pick up the new one.
Is it really that time draining?
I'm fan of trailer though - most novel to not have any game play footage.

The thing that annoys me, juding from the demo, is that if you click on a player, to see his stats. They dont show he position unless you click on position on the left!? Whats up with that?
Im glad i can compare players and existing players. See whos best in what position, and whos second best, etc;
I like the budget ajustment thing.
I allways play as Milan, and the wage budget your given is immense, re-organising the finances a bit gives me a 300k buffer in wages, and an extra £15m in transfer money!
As mentioned, the selling of players annoyed me in 07, and still appears to happen in the 08 demo.
I tend to have all my 1st team squad on 'not for sale, not for loan, buyout of £100m, reject all offers'. Stops 90% of offers coming in/unsettling my team. But as soon as i take players off that if i want to sell them, i get no offers at all. Even if i offer under the players value. Until the last day of the transfer window when i get 1 offer for a pittance.

I cannot wait for this to be released, one of the few games I can spend an age playing.
I haven't played the demo, when it comes to FM I like to wait for the full release before spending an age on the release day exploring all the changes and fiddling with all new tactics.
