Football *Spoilers* 8th-9th March

Oh do be quiet.

Most English fans have moved on considering it was nearly TWO Major tournaments ago. Most will also concede that England simply haven't been good enough.

So rather than look at blaming the so called "Horrible Little Weasel" as you so eloquently put it why not consider England were not good enough in the first place and Erikkson got his squad, tactics, team selection and motivation all wrong. Alternatively sit in your bitter little world of blaming Ronaldo.

Do you really think the Premiership is worse for having players like Ronaldo here ? Or would you rather them go abroad because of the media instigated witch hunts like after the world cup drives them abroad.

Loki, not sure why you're getting so upset but let me clarify, my original post which seems to have upset you was responding to One more Solo. My post's relating to Ronaldo were based around the amount of diving, simulation and acting he does, there's no doubt he's an amazing player. Diving and acting however shoudnt be part of the sport, and sadly Ronaldo can dive and act as well as he can play football. Please also understand I'm not blaming Ronaldo or anyone for the state of the national side, I'm just talking about todays game :)

My perception of Ronaldo is of a brilliant footballer who dive's if it'll give him a better chance of winning, something I personally dont like to see. If he didnt have the reputation of diving and simulating then maybe the referee's might believe him a little more when he is harshly tackled. Sorry if my view offends you, which it seems to have but I believe I'm entitled my own thoughts :)

Of course your entitled to your own thoughts and apologies if my reply was short

Peace Brother

We got Tom Heaton and Foster (if he's back to fitness).
Thankfully, we're playing Derby next so we should have VdS back in time for Liverpool.

Not sure Tom Heaton (thank you for the reminder) has ever played an EPL game - so dont know whether he would be worth the risk

Foster came through a reserve game the other night with no ill effects so should be ok.......crosses fingers

Is the current man u side as good as the side from 1999 then?

Different team really with a different formation.

Personally, I think were a lot better at the back than the '99 side. However we haven't got the options up front. At 1-0 today, would the '99 side pulled something out of the bag ?? I think they may have scraped a draw

LOL at the short memory, if it wasn't for Ronaldo's tricks and games at the last world cup maybe the state of our national game would seem a lot better, I seem to remember him baiting Rooney to get him sent off ..........

That's not my point. What I was trying to point out is that England are totally inadequate at an international level because our youth system is based on people "getting stuck in" and basically battering the other team off the field, with technical ability given a back seat. We should be encouraging skilful players and giving them more protection against this irritating persistent fouling that happens so much, rather than criticising them for not being "hard" enough. Until that happens English players will look largely as they do now: strong or fast but unable to keep the ball as well as so-called inferior nations like Croatia.

We've got a couple too many midfielders and a couple too few strikers- until we sort that out the '99 team is better. The other thing that the '99 side had was David Beckham- our set pieces today were appalling.

The '99 team had a far better midfield and goalie. The current team has a slightly better strikeforce and defence.

Edit: the '99 team had a far better captain too.

The '99 team was better imo.

I think its unfair to level the diving/cheating claim at just Ronaldo.

Many players have been guilty over the years, shearer was a dirty ****, gerarrd seems to go down a bit too easy, hell do we not remember owen in '98.

Its a intriguing question about United tho, is this fergie's best ever side? as much as it saddens me (and makes me very very sick inside) ive enjoyed watching united at their best, i guess the question is Ronaldo Vs Beckham Vs Cantona (ie united's most influential players of fergies 3 teams).

Anyway enough of the Mancs, it was a good result for us today, we didnt play well, but guess what...we play our best players and we win, i think Rafa is figuring this rotation malarky out now.

Tuesday night will be a cracker, ive managed to nab a ticket for out there:D

Our defense is better now, no doubt. Also, schmeichel was poor in '99. VDS has probably been better this year than he was then.
Our front two now are better players than cole/yorke.
Midfield, '99 probably edges it, but its close.
Squad wise, I think we have more very good - great players now. But our shortage of attackers now diminishes our squad greatly.
Ultimately, the success of '99 means that remains fergusons greatest. But the potential is defiantly there currently to eclipse it.

If I'm totally honest...

United should have had a penalty, clear as day. Distin completely barged Ronaldo out the way, no intent to play the ball.

Pompey shouldn't have been given a penalty, and Kuszczak shouldn't have been sent off. He didn't touch Baros, Baros touched him.

Quite how United never scored is unbelievable, especially the Carrick chance.

Can't believe Distin could keep a straight face saying he was running for the ball, he was only going for one thing, I'm not sure he even knew the ball was in play..

What a day, gutted I was working, missed to big cup upsets.

United where unlucky not to score but they deserved nothing, you don't put the ball in between the goal and over the line you don't win, a lot of people today have come across like its a divine right to win and go through, reminds me of the fa cup final between Arsenal and Man U what went to penalties.

Chelsea are poor another team that have a divine right to go through, I just hope the final is between pompey and boro because it should be a tight and decent game .
