Football *Spoilers* 8th-9th March

Haha, imagine Ronaldo in the 80's :D

I don't think it's because of that. Ronaldo doesn't get the protection a lot of other players do. He knows people get away with a lot of stuff on him that wouldn't be allowed on other players, he'd be right too.

I guarantee you that if Distin hit Tevez or Carrick in the same way, it would have been a penalty straight away. A perfect example is the tackle on Ronaldo by Diarra in the 2nd minute, that was a blatent booking yet he got away with it. Diarra could have been sent off 3 times today.

If I'm totally honest...

United should have had a penalty, clear as day. Distin completely barged Ronaldo out the way, no intent to play the ball.

Pompey shouldn't have been given a penalty, and Kuszczak shouldn't have been sent off. He didn't touch Baros, Baros touched him.

Quite how United never scored is unbelievable, especially the Carrick chance.

I also think Baros could have carried on, despite kicking PIG in the face. He seemed to take a step then just collapse.

I'm loathed to praise any team that goes for an "11 men behind the ball" tactic, but Portsmouth were very well disciplined and kept their concentration up all match.

It's just sad that you could see what Pompey's game plan was within three minutes of kick-off. I have far more respect for Arsenal, who came to OT and had a bloomin' good go, even though they lost. Tottenham too.

As a Sheff Utd fan who's lived in Barnsley for years, and went to Oakwell regularly as a lad with my dad and grandad, I'm chuffed to bits about last night.

I never really thought they'd even get a draw but as bad as Chelsea were, you still have to play your game and stick the ball in the net, which Barnsley did.

Aye where is that JohnnyG fella :D

I was very tempted to tear in to a few Mancs after you lost but luckily experience has taught me to hold fire, just in case;)

Fair play to Barnsley, they came at us from the start and played with real guts and passion throughout, 2 factors that we never had on the day. Couple that with woeful and wasteful performances by the likes of SWP, Malouda and Anelka and we got what we deserved and God only knows what CC was doing for their goal.
A real embarrassing weekend what with this, the rugby and the cricket, gutted:(

Can't believe Distin could keep a straight face saying he was running for the ball, he was only going for one thing, I'm not sure he even knew the ball was in play..

If that's a reference to when Ronaldo chucked himself on the floor - take a look at his eyes as he's running for the ball, he's constantly watching Distin, waiting for the point when falling over will most likely result in a penalty. I don't think Ronaldo had much of a clue where the ball was either, he was only going for one thing.

Regarding the Manchester United match - those guys could still be playing now, and not score. Some of those missed ones, it would have actually been easier to score than to screw it up....

Regarding the Chelsea match - LOL. Just....LOL. You wouldn't have guessed which was the team costing untold millions of pounds at times during that match.

Great day. I don't know whether it's down to schadenfreude, or just simply rooting for the underdog, but those two matches were the most enjoyable ones I've seen since Burton Albion held Man U to a draw at the Pirelli Stadium in the Cup a while back :)

You are kidding me? Seriously, you cannot be serious!

We all know he looked across for Distin rather than looking for a player to pass to.
Sorry but Distin was not looking to play the ball. Penalty for me.

Baros on the other hand looked for the penalty - look at his right leg as he goes over PIG - makes no attempt to place his foot to support himself.

But fair play to Portsmouth.

I've just watched the incident again 5 times in a row, Ronaldo had overrun the ball anway, even if Distin hadn't shown him the shoulder (or is that not allowed anymore?) the ball would have been out of play.

Definite penalty for me.

Having said that, I don't think Man Utd have a right to complain. How many penalties and free kicks has Ronaldo won over the years by cheating? If you're going to keep diving then refs will be less likely to award you real penalties.

Well just got home from last night, Barnsley Centre was mad, never known so many happy people in one place. Absolutley jam racked everywhere. People singing till the early hours. Bravo. Just need 3 points at Wigan today to make it a great weekend.

No difference between what distin did and when a defender normally shepards the ball out of play form an attacker.

If you can't hack a bit of contact you shouldn't be playing

You mean except from Distins LEG going across Ronaldo's thigh too? Or the fact the ball was long gone but Ronaldo would have gotten to it.
It's as stonewall as they come.

Andyp doesn't know what he's talking about, and you're a bitter Boro fan who has something against Ronaldo, so it doesn't surprise me.

Well if we're getting stroppy about things... before 'Sir' Alex Ferguson has a go at the officials maybe he should take a step back and remember what goes around comes around?
