Footballs hardest

Duncan Disorderly gets a lot of votes in this because of the whole jail thing but the reality is that was more of a technicality than anything else.

I'd say beating up a couple of burglars who were unwise enough to break into his home gives him a certain amount of claim outside of football to be a hardman. It might be fair to say there's not an awful lot of competition in the history of the Premiership either though.

I do love Duncan Ferguson. What I like most about that picture in the OP(always been one of my favourites) is the captains armband!

PS special mention for Thomas Repka....he was hilarious

Haha probably Dunc, the man was nuts, my hero Stuart Pearce maybe but he wasn't as aggressive or just insane as Dunc, just a hard tackler, plus he has really mellowed now :p

Also, don't really see why being a thug is anything to be proud of, which is what a lot of these people are.

There is a world of difference between being a tough player and just a thug who happens to play football.

TBH I think the hardest player would probably be someone you would least expect like Brad Friedel...

If you mean biggest onfield thug then probably Duncan Ferguson looking at the videos above. :p

Which is why I think someone like Keown could be pretty tough, he wasn't dirty, but good luck getting the better of him in a battle on the pitch.

I bet Edgar Davids was a nightmare to play against as well.

Danny McGrain.

Celtic stalwart of the late 70's and 80's. World class defender who never shied away from a tackle but was very rarely involved in any malicious, dangerous or thuggish behaviour. Acting like a thug does not make you a 'hard man'.

Shearer loses all respect for the way he handled the aftermath of that kick.

Should be given a knighthood in hindsight the way Lennon has gone on in his career as a player and mostly as a manager.

Anyway my offering: Wayne Rooney.

Don't think we'll ever see what he is capable of, but if I were to choose a footballer in a brawl I'd go with him.

Indeed. Hated mostly by both sides in N.Ireland. Big man round Lurgan rubbing 100 pound notes in his fans faces.

Spoken to quite a few hardcore Celtic fans and they cant stand the man
