For those with diabetes, how did you know/find out?

So basically were you feeling lethargic etc and went to the GP and they confirmed or was there another way you found out?
Obviously don't turn this into a medical thread, I just want to know how your journey please.
I reckon my journey was completely different than anyone else.

Thanks

I recently discovered I have Prediabetes.

I found out after my optician said she saw something during my eye test that can occasionally be an indicator of high cholesterol. I went to the doctor to get tested and then also carried out a blood pressure and diabetes test.

Turned out my blood pressure and cholesterol were fine, but my blood sugar levels were slightly higher than the normal range, just edging me in to the prediabetes range.

All the suggestions in the literature I was sent were about losing weight. My BMI is bang in the middle of the healthy zone though. So, eh, what?!

I already eat lots of fish and wholegrains rather than white bread etc. Just going to reduce my sugar and alcohol intake a bit and hope that's enough to lower me in to the normal range in my follow up test next year.

Update and ****** ******* *******

I've lost loads of weight in the last few months cutting carbs but came off a tablet because it was causing problems with my willy.
I've not had an oatcake in around 8 months - that's a big deal for a Stokie.
November 23 I was an amazing score of 47 on my HbA1c but today because of that tablet loss I'm back up to a dangerous 62 :(
They have just contacted me for an emergency appointment at 4.50pm.

All I will say if you do get diagnosed with it, take it seriously.

I didn't now suffering from serious issues with one of my eyes, so don't ignore it, listen to the medics, get it under control.

This is the problem for me, in 20 years I've never had anything happen to me (touch wood) except to be told I'm getting worse or I can't have my operations.
Other diabetes sufferers suffer, they have things wrong with them but for me it's something creeping up on me in the background, who knows, tomorrow could be the day I get my big warning.

If you can get your eyes checked yearly for diabetic retinopathy, your Dr should be able to sort the referral out for you.

My blood pressure went up after starting the Metformin so they wanted me to go on blood pressure tablets, to which I said no as I have no problems with it. Then had the cardiologist phone for a review and they wanted me to go onto blood pressure tablets and blood thinners, again I refused as I am quite satisfied with what I'm on. If however anything alters I will have to consider it.

My appointment was with the Diabetic Specialist Nurse.
He is putting me on Semaglutide which costs £100 a box and was/is the tablet celebrities are buying in bulk to lose weight.
With this pill I will lose a lot of weight and I have got to take blood readings every morning because it can cause hypo's.

Is Semaglutide a drug you need to tell the DVLA and insurers about?

I was on Liraglutide but had to come off it for the simple reason the pharmacy just couldn't get hold of it due to the muppets using it to lose weight. In it's place, they put me on the tablets you had to come off and they are so far working a treat - except for the constant need to drink and pee.

He told me they now have plenty of stock.

If you are on the ones I came off it was about 18 months before my willy started suffering.
Drink 2 litres of water a day and wash your willy after every pee
