Force 3 or M4

On paper the force 3 beats it badly.

On paper Sandforce use specs that whilst can be achieved using ATTO with uncompressed data, will never actually be achieved in real usage.

Do you have to plug an ssd into a sata 3 port? my board only has sata 2 i believe and i am also really keen on getting an m4 drive

Im using it on a sata 2 board.

Is installing the new firmware largely painless on the M4 as the speed boosts you seem to be able to get are pretty tasty. I am guessing that for an OS drive having a fast write speed is not hugely important? And so speed wise they are pretty much on a par and in terms of reliability I guess the M4 wins out?

Very easy to install.

Burn firware .iso to disk
Boot in to bios
Set sata to ide
Boot from disk
Type yes to upgrade firmware
Reboot
Back in to bios
Turn sata mode back to AHCI
Done

I had a 60GB Force 3, Due to issues with the controller I've had to get an Intel 510. Because I wanted absolutely solid reliability.

In this sense get the M4. It's much more reliable than the F3.

From what I've read the M4 gets my vote, and my money too. I wanted a vertex 3, but after reading up on them I changed my mind and ordered an M4 instead.

I've just bought the Force 3 120GB model off OcUK, hope I haven't made a bad decision. £125 for 120Gb of space seems like a good deal to me.
