What type of performance would you get from a 1.6 or a 1.8 or a 2.0 Ford Focus?

Whats the difference between them and are they any good as like a first car type thing...

well, its not 4wd, japanese or does it have a turbo. so why are you interested ? ;)

all jokes aside, my sister bought a 2.0 zetec one in black, with some allesio rims and nearly 100k miles, yet its a sweet car. Engine is nice, pretty nippy.

I actually found your joke a little funny, maybe i have been a little mental about evos...

i do like a lot of other cars and i was never fond of the focus til i sat in one and it grew on me and i really like it now.

How much did it cost?

Just out of interest, what's the insurance group on the VTi's?

James, the 1.6 Focus does 0-60 in 10.5 seconds, 1.8 does it in about 9.8 I think.

Vti is about 14 I think.

James, you've got 4 threads alone on the motors front page!!

The spammathon should be restricted to one thread, and one alone. The search tool is very useful, and you'll notice the Focus spec / ability has been covered a number of times in the past.

As far as performance figures are related, use either
http://www.carfolio.com/specifications/

Or

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/

For information! All in, the Focus is a good everyday driver. This is the very reason that there are absolutely thousands on our roads. Walking around my local supermarket recently I counted no less than 15 Focus' in that car park alone.

There are thousands of Rover 200's and CityRovers on our roads... doesn't make them a good car ;)

Are you thinking mk1/1.5 or mk2 focus?

I have a mk1.5 1.6 focus edge and I really like it, great handling it's nippy enough for what I need it to do and has all the toys i could need! plus i get what i think is good mpg from it.

I think the hit you take with fuel from 1.8 to 2.0 isn't quite worth it imo but it all depends what you want from it :D

Sounds about right. I have a 1.6 and its nice a smooth, lots of low down torque for a 1.6. Good fun but the low down torque makes greacy roundabouts a bit hairy if you touch the accel a bit! :D

Ok Mr.Pedantic pants :p My Mum has the mk1 Focus with the 1.8 Zetec engine. They've had it from new and @ 75k miles it hasn't had a hiccup (bar normal servicing)

I've driven it a fair bit and done some long-haul journeys (few 100 miles) and the engine is plenty fast enough and can return a reasonable mpg rate. On the motorways it is comfortable and plain really. No big wows but likewise no big problems from my experience.

Driven with a full load of people and luggage it can sometimes lack the low-down torque but no worse than any other N/A Petrol car.

I've got a 1.8 mk1 Focus, and was very lucky as for some reason my Focus can do a gps registered 60 in 2nd gear, which cuts my 0-60 time, not that I 0-60 it much! I want to get mine on a dyno one day as it seems quicker than it should be!

Nice cars to be honest :)

Totally agree, could someone please put him back in his box or show him some forum etiquette / rules, you want a car ask in that thread, get ideas either ask IN THAT THREAD, or post a new one in a few days, not with everyones suggestions, afterall this is overclockers.co.uk no james07.co.uk.......

There much better than a Maestro or Tata Indica. ;)

My 1.8 Zetec is absolutely perfect at its design role, the climate pack is awesome in this weather too, just could do with the tyres changing to a lower road noise version.

Wonder what it makes it then as the book figure would be using 3rd. Havent pushed mine that far to see whether it gets to 60 in 2nd :o

Mine has done 60 in second (1.8 mk1 focus) although you are doing a fair few revs so I don't do it often. What I am more likely to do is use the full range in first and then you don't need to boot it any more. If you are playing traffic light gp then most people shift at 20-25, take it higher than that and its fine.

The 1.6 does 60mph is 2nd fairly easily, but I think it does a few rpm more at the red line than the older 1.8. It lets you over-rev, then cuts back by a few hundred if you keep the accelerator planted. It didn't seem to bounce off the limiter like other cars I've driven, it goes to max, then drops back a bit and stays.

the 1.8 does 60 in second at about 6000rpm which is fine i do it all the time and ive got 150k on the clock :) only once has the limiter kicked in thats when i dropped it into first at 40
