Ford Powershift Gearbox Issue

I bought a 2011 Mondeo Titanium X Sport in January. When I was going through the final stuff before leaving, the dealer said I should be careful when switching from Drive to Reverse, as you need to do it slowly in stages with a Powershift gearbox or it will jolt.

I found this strange as the car I currently had (2011 Focus) was also a Powershift and I could move the stick straight from Reverse to Drive and vice versa with no issue at all.

During the 3 month warranty period, on occasion, when I would stop, apply brake and move the gear down to reverse (slowly) the car would violently jolt. My brother reminded me what the dealer had said and I just assumed it was bad form on my part.

Now the warranty has expired this is really annoying me. Last night I reversed onto my drive, pushed the brake down hard and the car jolted violently just moving it into Neutral on the way to Park.

I have searched intensely on the net for any mention of this 'feature' or issue and I cannot find anything. I cannot believe I was that gullible. The car was so lovely, I just assumed it was a different kind of gearbox and I would learn to operate it correctly.

Obviously I have no comeback with the dealer now but has anyone ever heard of a gearbox operating in such a way?
Thanks

Not worth going back to him asking him to ask what it was you had to be careful about with the gear stick? And then once he confirms, just ask him to politely send it over email or text as you have terrible memory and the car keeps jolting, and you couldn't remember what was the cause of it

Once you've got it in writing, you can prove they sold you a dodgy car, and have since learned it's not a byproduct of the gearbox but rather a fault with it :)

Sorry to hear of your issue.

Im on the lookout for one of these too but every time one comes up for sale the dealer/seller cannot evidence that the gearbox oil has been changed at the required 37.5k miles or 3 year mark. Very poor situation overall.

Try changing the gearbox oil first?

This. If it is a long time overdue then it can cause issues.

Afterward, use ForScan to run a shift fork and clutch pack adaptation.

If these don't help then I think it's going to need some professional attention :(

I have a 2010 Focus with powershift and it is perfectly OK - I did have the oil changed at 37k and it is due another in about 1k time - It is expensive but i like the powershift so will look after it.

Fathet in laws 2011 Mondeo does this and it's getting worse. Now when you pull out of junctions sometimes there is no drive for half a second followed by a loud bang & the sensation of being rear ended.

as above one of the reasons i havent changed my 2009 mondeo want to get newer but most have powershift and just looking at ford models with them there seem to be quite a few being sold with the caveat (gearbox fault)

Before buying an automatic I'd want to try a zf/asin torque convertor in either 3er/C/508, I'm expecting those to be smoother for stop-start traffic than dsg, or powershift,
by such a margin that its those, or, stay with manual - from a reliability perspective too.

Any torque converter gearbox will be smoother in traffic than something with a clutch, regardless of how the clutch is operated. It's one of the main benefits of the torque converter. The main issues with a TC gearbox seems to be the value body, and replacing them is pretty similar to doing a clutch and DMF.
