Forgot to tell Insurer about Private Plate Change... Pulled over for no insurance

I didn’t have my phone on me when I got pulled . Just a headache all round, but totally my fault. I’ll except a fine but hoping no points. Hopefully they’ll accept that it was a genuine mistake. That’s terrible you would think they would accept that and forfeit the fine. Too many jobsworths out there

Did they seize your car at the roadside (which they are well within their rights to for driving with no insurance) forcing you to a) find your own way home, and b) pay for recovery and storage costs? If not, then I don't think you can really complain about them being "jobsworths"!

No they did not thankfully. I was replying to someone else regarding their situation regarding a parking ticket. I was not referring to my situation or insinuating the officers involved in my case are jobsworths. Thankyou

Fair enough, then I misunderstood. (It looks like the company in the post you were referring to did let them off the fine in the end :) )

The police deal with this quite a lot. All they really should be looking for is that the vehicle itself is insured whether on the personalised plate or the original plate - and, if it is, advise the motorist to update their insurance details. The car is still insured and they can see what the original plate is - it's just an admin thing that should be dealt with via words of advice.

Just get your registration changed on the policy and get the new certificate? Hopefully the date and time of the policy starting won't change as you haven't changed the car, just the registration...
The date and time has changed on it but still has march to march on it aswell which is my previous start and end.

I'm guessing you've been given a producer and need to go down to the station with documents? I would just take the existing certificate and the reissued one with the new reg plate.

a) The officer checking may not even notice
b) If they do, you can explain what happened

I actually had a similar situation to this but worse when I was in my early 20s.

I was parked up in a car park chatting to a mate after buying a new car, and was about to leave when a police car pulled in and stopped us for a chat. He gave me a producer.
When I got home I realised my insurance policy started the next day, not that day.

Obviously I was bricking it at this point - I was uninsured and I was going to get done.

I took my documents down anyway, and the officer noticed the insurance started approximately 24 hours after the producer. I explained I had changed my insurance from Vehicle A to Vehicle B (I had certificates for both) and that I hadn't realised the dates at the time. He asked if there was any RTC or if it was just a routine stop, I explained it was the latter. He was fine with that and sent me on my way with no further issues.
