Don't they have to factor in huge amounts of damage on the cars in Forza? My memory is a bit fuzzy but as I remember you could reall mash up the car. Maybe the graphics have to suffer a bit to allow for that?

According to the video there will be a bit of damage. I doubt the damage will be like other games like GTA, where the damage is always the same as the damage is premade and upon contact it swaps for example the bonnet, for a broken bonnet. I think this game will be using a dynamic damage system where the original model will be able to deform, so there will be no need for extra polygons for damage.

This is a hunch but I would expect a system like this by todays standards.

Che on forza Motorsport forums has come out and finally said about the images that have been posted.

Che works for creators of Forza 2 on media side i think and most people will know him from 1up.com days.

Those leaked screens are real. First leaked batch were from a really old build which we had to use to make print magazine deadlines. Second batch (the same batch I'll post in the morning) are the official first screens of the game. Oh well. If you think they look awful or whatever, I'm not here to change your mind -- not much I can do about that. The haters will hate, I suppose. All this forum drama is pretty nuts.

Keep in mind that the game is far from finished and many of the graphical effects missing in these screenshots have yet to be stabilized in the build (HDR and various other car shaders). If you're going to nitpick the visual minutae of a game, wouldn't it make more sense to do so with something that's not a work-in-progress? Sometimes you turn something on in the current builds and it breaks other things. I dunno, there's a lot of weird code dependencies and complexities that I'm learning about in games development and none it seems very easy.

Forza 2 will look really good when it's finished. Obviously, the game isn't finished right now. At this point, we'll probably keep releasing new assets going forward and hope folks like what they see and play in the months to come.

p.s. 3d grass exists but weren't in the screenshots. OMGWTF!!11

p.p.s. we don't have time to implement HDR1!11 can somebudy plz help"!!1

p.p.p.s. seriously, get a grip people.

Heh I like his reply. I did play Forza on the Xbox but not much and I'm looking forward to Forza 2.

It looks nothing like Forza 1... Its not the same gaming engine and its not the same game models, so in essence its nothing like Gran Turismo HD which is just GT4 in high def (and probably not the fuckk game either  ). No new anything.

He has a point, it aint finished. From a 3D modellers point of view, the screenshots so far more than do justice to the development of the game. It certainly exceeds the quality of PGR3. HDR is a bit of a fad thanks to Half Life 2. I personally find it over used or used unrealistically in most games.

I think this is just another e-bandwagon because people are expecting far too much and want everything now. For those people, they might as well just let EA publish it and get a second rate bug ridden game that looks great and runs like ****.

Can you comapre the first one to any other games that are out cos i didn't play the first one?

Well the obvious comparison is GT3, however I found Forza to be more interesting and less stale than GT's 'do a particular race X amount of time until you get enough money for an air filter' formula.

With comments like "the games is far from finished" kinda just gives you the impression this is going to 07 just like the original Forza got put back.

DAMN

I have to say, I do wonder why the people who haven't played Forza 1 are getting so excited about the sequel, and I do think many of them will probably end up quite disappointed. I mean, Forza is a great game, but it's not the kind of game that people will rush out to buy, play for five minutes, and think "Oh wow this is amazing!" Even a demo won't really show people much, because it'll probably be one car on one track, which will either be a) fast and a pain to slow for corners, b) slow and "dull", c) horribly twitchy/over/understeering. Forza is the kind of game that takes a while to get in to, and I wonder how many people will lose patience with this one because of it.

Oh, and Forza is better than GT purely for having a better controller behind it. Analogue triggers and a better stick give you so much more control. And yeah, the gameplay is pretty mint too. :p

It's true that the analogue stick on the PS2 controller is awful

After playing GT3, GT4 and Forza for many hours apiece, I must begrudgingly admit that I prefer Forza. The Xbox's superior controller makes such a difference. Plus cars in Forza don't have ridiculous understeer like in GT4.

If only Forza had the same smooth high framerate of GT then it would be perfect :D I am eagerly awaiting Forza 2 for that reason. I reckon it's gonna be a great game. (I'm optimistic that the final release will have improved graphics)

Nothing wrong with the frame rate of Forza1, super smooth to me! Have you got it on PAL60?

Dont get involved with a framerate conversation with him, he has super-human eyes that can detect even the slightest variation ;) :D

Obviously not a hardcore gamer who back in the day sat 2" in front of a 28" CRT TV playing on his console for 12 hours straight, destroying any chance of not going blind after 30 or masturbating too much.

I'm excitied for the game from hearsay of the original and also because I'm a petrolhead. The thought of the game using real world engines and having a grip on that kind of thing makes it special to me. GT is just "Stage 4" whatever... Forza sounds more in depth and quite fun. GT got boring for me.

Have to agree that 60fps in Forza 1 would have made a heck of a difference (same with PGR 2 - god knows why they decided to make it 30fps... though for some reason it doesn't bother me in the least in PGR 3).

Even if Forza 2 was a straight conversion of Forza 1 with HD and 60fps I'd still buy it !

Anyone who can't tell the difference between 30fps and 60fps really needs to visit the optician :)
