Forza 4

does the 'simulation steering' mean that no matter what speed you go, if you turn fully to the right it will turn the wheels full lock to the right?

if so that is epic suckiness because you really need speed sensitive steering on the controller. ive tried without it on GTR2 and its impossible at high speeds

It clearly states that 'Simulation steering' is an OPTION. You'll still be able to have 'filtered' steering for gamepads. Simulation steering will be a fantastic addition for wheel users though

GT5 can do day/night and still get 60fps:D

As much as I like GT5 (It's grown on me), the one thing it can't do is a SOLID 60fps..

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-gran-turismo-5-tech-analysis?page=3

You can see the small compromises PD make to squeeze it all in
- Less detailed (geometry wise) tracks
- Jaggy shadows and blocky outlines of cars in smoke/weather
- Frame rate that often dips to 50fps with moderate screen tearing
- Less sophisticated physics (Top level car feel is awesome, but it's missing good collision physics, and the tyre model seems archaic with no semblence of tyre pressure/temperature effects etc)

They did however hit some real highs
- 16 cars in SP
- Night/Day + transistions on a few tracks
- Rain on a few tracks
- 1280*1080

T10 decide it's a solid 60fps and will sacrifice some graphics intensive stuff like night/weather and concentrate on high track detail etc, PD will sacrifice the 60fps and some track detail to give you night/weather and a higher resolution..

You can't have it all, or say one is better then the other, I guess you'll just prefer one developers compromises over the other..

Shame that no night & no weather is confirmed, but hey, its put that to rest once & for all, not particularly gutted about Bugatti Circuit, New York & Amalfi, if I had to pick 3 to lose, it would be those, although Official Forums, neogaf & forza central will now be bombarding the extra 3 track spaces out of the 32 announced as Spa etc.. :D lol

I'm trying to play forza 3 now.

Game 1: I load to the lobby, hit spectate and they're literally on the 2nd corner on the first lap, nice choice of lobby.
Game 2: crashes during load in and we all get sent back to the lobby where it says we're racing.
Game 3: see game 1.
Game 4: I get span off in the first corner, not an accidental tap, the guy was using me to corner against, actively steering out until I span.
Game 5: see game 3.

Definitely cancelling my forza 4 preorder. Gaming was supposed to be fun last time I checked.

None of my friends were online and out of the 5 games I tried, only one was because of a moron. Usually the majority of problems arise from idiots racing aggressively, but the matchmaking it possibly the worst in any console game I've played.

Welcome to Forza Motorsport 3. Very little about FM4 has be excited either, same old game with a bit of polish. I spent hundreds of hours on FM2 and 3 but I'm bored to death of them now.

Yeah, I have 1k gs on forza 2 (yes, including having one of every car in my garage at the same time) and hundreds of hours on 3, I really enjoy the game when everything goes right, but finding a game that doesn't glitch out and everyone's racing fairly is impossible.

The matchmaking is so flawed for example that if someone leaves the game, some people will freeze up for up to a second while others won't, inevitably causing a crash if the race is close and changing positions etc.

I guess since they managed to bugger it up so badly between forza 2 and 3, they might be able to do the same in reverse for 4, but I'm not going to spend £60 on the special edition as I was planning to find out.

Forza 2 entertained me for hundreds of hours up until forza 3 release. Forza 3 was bored of in a few months. It was a better single player game but the multiplayer sucked ass. I want 10 lap enduro races on the ring god dam it not 3 lap bumper cars where everyone use s5's.

Right you lot....

Fanatec have just announced they are wanting Beta testers for their new £500+ CSR Elite wheel. Yes the new Xbox/PS3/PC wheel they demonstrated at E3 and Gamescom with FM4.

The lucky people chosen will have their wheels shipped out soon with tests to be conducted by October 15th.
Darin Ganji from ISR will be helping with the beta programme and testers reporting back to him.

See here for details on how to register/apply and may the Force Feedback be with you. :D

After the test period you can send back the wheel or purchase it with a 50% discount

would have been well up for it if it meant a free wheel. i really cant justify £250 on one though (especially since i'd have to do my PS3 testing round friends houses)

Thats just for the wheel too, pedals would be extra. Too pricey and based on their current products, too fragile for my tastes.
WHAT, pedals as an optional extra for a steering wheel. thats ridiculous.

one thing that has passed through my mind is that there are rumours floating around saying that spa is short on money, hence the second rumour of spa and that POS french track sharing a slot in F1. also, a great track for forza 4 would be spa. so, could the guys at T10 waft a bit of money in front of the owners of SPA so it can be used in forza 4? we would get an epic racetrack in forza, and spa would get a tonne of advertisement and get closer to sorting out its money problems possibly letting it stay in F1 every year

This usually results in a wicked tank-slapper.

Dont believe they should have ever removed that kind of thing. That is why some people win and others dont, equalise everyone and its scaletrix instead of a driving game

I think the planned deal to alternate with France has stalled thank god. If classic tracks like Spa and Suzuka are dropped I wont bother with F1 anymore, these Tilkeland themeparks are becoming ridiculous. Spa should have been in FM$, instead we get the Tilked Hockenheim woopee.

Perhaps you should have read the rules/terms more.
They send you out the wheel, you don't have to buy it and they pay to have it collected. Additionally what you pay if you do decide to keep it is based on how good your test reports or videos may have been. The most anyone pays is 1/2 price I believe.

If this is anything like the T500 regards precission or FFB strength then it will really make FM4 all the more enjoyable.

where does it say that, i just see 50% off in the terms in that link

could have been sure the link I originally placed was news of this at Virtual R which also included this link....

It looks like already lots have shown interest....

With the PWTS (Turbo Wheel) Beta testers got sent standard pedals and shifters with the wheel.

If you haven't read the latest "Under The Hood" (third one) I suggest you do:

Difficulty is now a lot more expanded, though the AI now has 4 difficulty settings, with the 4th one effectively in between what medium and hard was in Forza 3.

In Forza 4, we have more than 20 different levels--though these are not discretely selectable by the player. In Quick Race, Event List and Multiplayer, you can choose between four different AI settings. The new player selectable difficulty level basically slots in between what would have been considered medium and hard in Forza 3.

Damage is improved and the "simulation damage" option now goes the whole hog

Damage (both performance and cosmetic) has been part of the Forza experience since the beginning on the original Xbox. In Forza 3 we introduced rollover. In Forza 4, we’ve made some improvements to the look of damage such as increasing polygonal damage and making texture damage more localized, so where you come in contact with a wall, barrier or other obstacle will be more closely reflected in the damage to your car.

Finally, if you play the game with “simulation damage” setting on, we’ve disabled the “auto-rollback” feature—so if you manage to roll your ride after a pretty nasty crash, you’ll be pretty much out of luck.

It mentions hybrid vehicles and all electric, and CVT gearboxes, so I guess these may be fully simulated now?

We’ve added various HEV (hybrid) and all-electric cars to the game. In order to enable the addition of these cars, we had to change the physics, audio, Automagic, as well as change the available upgrades. Based on what type of hybrid or electric car it is, and also what kind of transmission it comes with (i.e. CVT), the upgrade system gives you some new hybrid or electric-specific upgrades in the power section.

Another great plus is the "Big Shot" photography. Whereas previous in-game and car photos were rendered at 1280x720 (which they still are for standard shots, but with much less compression), "Big Shot" renders at 3840x2160 with absolutely no compression.

Clicky for "Big Shot"

Getting very excited about this game now. I would recommend reading the article as it goes into a lot more detail.
